I think as others have said McCarthy seems ideal for the role before Stones is. The lad needs to develop as well without the burden of being a leader for the team. His time will come.

I'd have Barkley as captain over McCarthy when the time comes.

By the time Jags is done, Barkley will be 23/24, by which time I reckon he'll have cut the inconsistencies out of his game. The lad was born to captain Everton.
