The captaincy isn't just about organising things on the pitch though and talking with the ref - it is also training ground work, making new players feel welcome and a lot of media events.By the time Jags is done, Barkley will be 23/24, by which time I reckon he'll have cut the inconsistencies out of his game. The lad was born to captain Everton.
So far, John Stones looks a lot more comfortable at both the media work and directing other players to get them to do the thimgs he wants than Barkley does. Stones generally comes across as more self confident and composed despite being slightly younger with less time at the club.
Also, if they both develop into the players we hope they will, there will be far more pressure on Barkley than there will be on Stones and adding a captaincy to it will only increase that. Different people mature at different rates though so perhaps Barkley will develop into a captain, he seems a nice lad if a bit gormless on interviews.
Regardless of the personalites involved, I generally think centre halves are in a better position to be captains with midfielders/strikers as vice captains.
