John Stones

Re: England, I'm not sure we can make the argument with Stones not being included because he's not from a top team. Southampton will have players on the plane, Everton themselves should have at least three players going to Brazil. Bit of a lazy argument to me. Should he go? Probably if only to sit and watch the best defenders in the world, gain that little bit more to make him better than he already is. Him and Jags could be the pairing of the future if not the next 3-4 years before Jags is past it.

His assurance on the ball is perfect for Martinez's system, no wonder he's flourishing the way he is. Plenty of tactical know-how and when he adds a bit more weight hell be a solid defensive prescence. I don't even know who to compare him to, I haven't seen Beckenbauer play but if he can reach those levels then all the better. Seems to like it here too which is a plus.

The lad looks absolute quality, but this World Cup is far to early for him. He's barely played a dozen top flight games. This country has a history of demanding the next big thing be introduced before their ready and then slating them as soon as their form drops. Stones doesn't need that pressure yet, let the other players like Jones and Smalling take the abuse when England inevitably fail, Stones time will come and excel but it's not now.

I'm sure you've had many replies of the same sort but he's fantastic. As good a compliment I can make is that we've hardly missed Jagielka. I have little doubt that he'll go on to be a world class centre back, he really is that good.

I'm seriously worried that we bring back a not fully fit Jagielka for the run in (see away Derby game)

Don't know if this has already been mentioned, but this stat features in Garth Crooks team of the week:

"Everton have won 77% of games when Stones has played this season - and just 38% when he has not."

Seems mad to me

I think the most encouraging thing that I have seen from him, every young player will make mistakes and as a defender constant mistakes can cost you games, however he has made a few mistakes but the majority of times he has immediately made up for it with a great tackle, very promising defender!

He is the difference, that one centreback that comes along every so often that you know will not only fill the gaps at the back but will make the whole team better. This lad will win us trophies and will be worth 30 million pne day.

Against Sunderland 1-0 up in the nerviest game of the season and i knew we wouldnt concede. In all the years of watching Jahielka and Distin i've never once had that feeling that a cock up isnt just around the corner. The results say it all 7 on the bounce, a few good clean sheets. Another 'winner' in the team. Keep him Ross Seamus and Macca together and something is going on here.

Now we can speculate all day long about contracts and who will be sold and who stays, thing is when The agent fills the player full of sthi and gets him to request a transfer we can do SFA about it and at the same time when Martinez wants to buy Lukaku he will be told you must sell to buy, harsh as it is 4th or not any deal with Chelsea will involve one of the three Barkley ,Coleman or Stones. This talk about a 20 million war chest FFS would,nt pay for a small riot. We need at least 5 new faces this summer to have a chance in what ever european tournament we end up playing in next year. Apart from Lukaka money we will need to spend 40million to stay in top 4 or 5.

He's been excellent. A very good football and his passing is great. Hope we can build the defence round him for years to come.
