John Stones

If anybody wants Stones, we should try to get stupid money from a club. If Chelsea could get £50 million for David Luiz, we should try to get at least the same price. The first option still should be for me to try to renew his contract. Even through it may be better to cash in sooner than later as I have some fear Stones is not actually such a great defender talent as is his current mentioned price. Great on the ball, but the main thing for him should be to defend. And he really is not special in that territory.

Have you ever watched a Guardiola team? Given a choice among Mangala, Otamendi, Demicheles, and Stones, he would hesitate a microsecond before spending £50 million on Stones. He demands that his central defenders play exactly the way that Stones does, mistakes be damned.
It won't work in the premiership which is played at a far higher tempo.
Man City under Guardiola will not be able to play every game as Barcelona and Bayern do , it simply won't work. They will be chased and harried all over the place and it will frustrate them.
Remember what Chelsea did to them in the CL a few years back.

I think that 50m may be the magic figure, but it does really depend on who is in the market. ...if he is to be sold and we already saw Everton being stubborn about that last season.

We may have new owners by then and of course there will be the additional TV money.

First off, the Bundesliga is played at just as high a tempo as the Premier League. That's half of Klopp's problem on the RS -- he's trying to get them to play as quickly as he had Dortmund playing. Leverkusen is even crazier. Second, whether or not it's ultimately a successful tactic, don't for a second think he won't at least try it when he starts out. The first thing he's going to do when he takes over City is get rid of all those plodding central defenders (Kompany excepted) and try to replace them with people who actually look comfortable on the ball. I don't know if Stones will be at the top of his list, but he'll definitely be one of the players he looks at.

The Times is saying if he leaves then United or City are likely to be his first choice because he wants to stay up north and also it will take over the record £49m record for an English player for anyone wanting to buy him.

That's because he is a UTD fan.

Stones not in the squad at all. Maybe Howard and him had some crazy double injury in training.

No Howard?

The mistakes he's made are 10% of the bigger picture, he is still captain material for both domestic and international. Demonising him as part of a bigger defensive problem is really poor form.

I would hope he is being protected from an escalating situation rather than punished for poor form
