I've no problem with him being taken out the team, though every single defender will improve without howard out the side, it's the judgements made without any objectivity because its a certain player that grate, the kid will be a star, absolutely no doubt about it, and reveling in a clean sheet because someone didn't play (unless its howard then i'm in) is a false economy

Exactly this. He is only a kid starting his career and he is bound to have dips. This is his first test as a top level footballer. I am sure he will return soon and back to his supreme best.

He needed either a rest or a chance to sit down and let his inflated ego deflate a little... I do think the whole media hype and Chelsea transfer saga did affect him.
Great player and undoubtedly will be world class, it just hasn't quite clicked with him yet, maybe because his mind is a little off focus.

oh wow.
He does defend. It's a myth that he doesn't. He's liable to a mistake, like any other player is, especially one that is 21 and has lead our defence for large chunks of this season.
Agree that if he was rested it was the right move, as he's played a lot of football, but can't believe some people (not yourself) slating him. He's a top top player. One of the best we'll see at this club for a long time.
