John Stones

he moved into midfield didn't he? think he's make a brilliant defensive mid myself. he'd get a few assists as well.

No. He stayed as a cb but took the 'play-making' duties off of Gibbo, who dropped back when Stones went forward. But he always went back to slotting into the defence.

Gibbo clearly was not 100% fit and tired also he is another who should be on his way. But as for Stones, the game and especially the second half showed how darn good he can be and that sort of role is his strength.

If you can stand it mate, go back and watch it. You'd see you're wrong.

Defensively, he was very good in the first half. We'd had been 3/4 down by half time if not for his blocks.

Oh for goodness sake.

You need to get over your John Stones thing, Toff.

You are embarrassing yourself now with statements like that.

No, I could not stand watching that first half horror show all over again and I wouldn't need to anyway as I saw it all unfold at first hand.

Just admit, if only to yourself, Stones was as bad as the rest in the first half.

No one will think owt the less of you

I'm not.

I think he's been very average since he came back into the side.

However, yesterday he put in a very good display for 90 minutes. He saved us several times in the first half, and defensively it was one of his best displays of the season - which is something he's been criticised for.

In the second half all the players upped their game. Ultimately it wasn't enough.

CBA reading all the previous comments, I'm not in the mood to go on about Stones' lack of desire etc bad guts or whatever and I openly admit I have slated him. However, did anyone notice when they showed Martinez celebrate our goal Stones in the background going nuts when we scored? The lad deep down has the passion I believe to be a winner, I just now believe he is a victim of the current regime and I hope and I say it again Moshi et al have the nuts to make a swift change and show a massive statement of intent.

Saw it too. It showed he really cares and has a passion for the game, but due to his demeanour and style of play, it is something that he is criticised for. Phil 'point a finger' Neville looked to have passion but it never translated it into performances. Stones has been hung out to dry this season by Martinez. Watch the lad shine again under a new management team.
