All of which continues to tell me he's a defensive midfielder. I know you can't predict the future, but I just can't envisage him conquering his positioning and heading weaknesses.

I guess I don't understand why we don't embrace the skills he has in spades and put him in midfield, rather than persist with him in defence and hope he can sort out his deficiencies.

If the new guy is half decent we may find out ( if he's still here) just where his best position is...maybe it is doing the Carsley/Barry thing, because he hasn't shaped up doing the Mountfield/Ratcliffe thing...yet.
May yet flatter to deceive...but there is some sort of player in there just needs moulding

Totally agree with you mate. Lahm, Dier and Zouma have all played in midfield from defence with reasonable success in recent times. Stones has the perfect skill set for it. In fact, the perfect skill set to be Barry's replacement.

Don't you need to be a good reader of the game to be a defensive midfielder like good positioning which is a weakness of his

He can tackle
He got pace
He can pass
Leadership he does seems to have potential in this but going off in the Derby was a massive concern in leadership skills.

Stones has the talent to make it all the way to the top. Firstly he needs some good coaching as he is certainly not getting at Everton. He then needs to get his confidence back. All the mistakes and abuse from the fans would get to any player. Most of the mistakes I believe are down to the way the team is set up. Personally I think if we get a top manager in we should keep Stones at all costs.

taking the utd game by the balls was a massive plus in that regard though

Class player and hopefully over this seasons poor form. We really need to keep Stones and hopefully our new manager ( when it happens ) will make keeping Stones a priority.

If Low is our new manager, maybe Stones will stay who knows. We need a high calibre, proven manager as the new leader.

Stones will show how a good a player he is in the Euro's, and then he'll be sold for 50m. So will Rom. I thnk this summer, we will be losing
Stones, Rom, McCarthy, and Mirallas. So then we have to spend big bucks just to get the squad to what it was, and then big bucks more to improve it

And the media are talking Eddie Howe or Mark Hughes who can do that job??!?! Just friggin laughable
