John Stones

Now here is a player that is not only obviously improving at a rate of knots but one for whom it seems the sky is the limit.

Stones is simply a top top player.

In a competitive game he'd never get the time on the ball he had last night.

Think England created the space and time for him quite well. Dier was really good in offering for the ball in that deep position so even though the French forwards were pressing quite a lot time and time again between Cahill Dier and Stones they engineered space for Stones to bring it out. A far cry from the days of Gerrard and Lampard just standing there offering nothing then bawling out the first pass that isn't thread through the eye of a needle for them.

Would be good if Dier could establish himself in that position for England, Carrick is too old/injury prone and Wilshere isn't a defensive midfielder even in the rare occasions he is fit.

More bids for him in January, nailed on

There'll be bids every single window for him, there will have been interest as soon as he played his first game for us. That's inevitable when you have one of the world's top centrebacks on your books and he's English under 21. He will be one of the top targets for nearly every major European power now.

It's a case of when, not if, I fear now

Everton that

If he stays to the end of this season we'll have had him for three seasons. Sadly if you want to keep hold of the best prospects in world football you need to do something over that period. We've done nothing, and last season will have been a massive warning sign to the likes of Lukaku and Stones who thought we might have kicked on from fifth to champions league and trophies.

We should sit Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu and Galloway down and offer them the chance to build a legacy not seen since United's team of the 90's. The influx of tv money should be used to give this crop of players the chance to achieve everything at Everton. Hopefully one or two others can come through the ranks and we can find a goalkeeper of top class calibre too.

We simply cannot afford to lose any of those 5 mentioned.

Swap Galloway for Coleman and Barkley for McCarthy and I'd agree with you.

He was obviously picking young players

As for McCarthy over Barkley
Ross will reach the very top play for top teams win trophies and plenty of medals

We are mccarthys level at this moment in time 6 to 10 in the prem

If we improve and move forward to challenge for trophies and top 4 on the next few years
It won't be down to McCarthy

I got the bit about young players. That's my fault in thinking of Coleman and McCarthy as young players!

I disagree on your analysis of Barkley and McCarthy. I think you have it wrong. Based on hype Barkley may well get a move but I don't see it working out. Not really. By contrast I could easily see McCarthy do a great job in the midfield for any of the Sky teams.

To be clear I would obviously prefer they both stayed and did the business for us. I'm just disagreeing that I think McCarthy will have the better career of the two. In ten years time we can see who's correct!
