I got the bit about young players. That's my fault in thinking of Coleman and McCarthy as young players!

I disagree on your analysis of Barkley and McCarthy. I think you have it wrong. Based on hype Barkley may well get a move but I don't see it working out. Not really. By contrast I could easily see McCarthy do a great job in the midfield for any of the Sky teams.

To be clear I would obviously prefer they both stayed and did the business for us. I'm just disagreeing that I think McCarthy will have the better career of the two. In ten years time we can see who's correct!
James mccarthys grow on trees
As far as I'm concerned
Ross barkleys don't

And if McCarthy was good enough for a top 4 team he would be playing for a top 4 team

If McCarthy was taken out of our team for the next 10 games and replaced with cleverly or besic
we wouldn't notice a difference imo
But if Barkley was taken out we would notice a big difference

Agree to disagree mate but time will tell.

Barkley as of today - lots of raw talent - are plentiful. It's the Barkley that will make better decisions in the final third that would be really rare.

Indeed he is, probably the best player to grace Goodison since Rooney. I just hope we hold onto him for a while longer and when he goes, he goes somewhere better, like Barca, but please not Chelsea, he is class and they most definitely are not..

Barcelona scouts were detailed to watch England’s friendly against Spainin Alicante last week and while there was intrigue over the possibility of seeing the Leicester City striker who is the Premier League’s top goalscorer, it was John Stones they wanted to study against their nation’s best players.

As it turned out, neither Jamie Vardy nor Stones played against Spain, but the central defender’s display in Tuesday’s victory over France will ensure Barcelona continue to monitor his progress.

John Stones impressed for England against France on Tuesday

Just days before facing England with Spain, Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué named Stones as the only Englishman in his World XI in an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph.

Piqué’s high praise of “one of a new generation who understand football not just as a defender” is not seen as a coincidence. It is a technique of all of the world’s top clubs to enlist players and staff to try to turn the heads of targets and Piqué’s words certainly served to highlight how highly thought of Stones is at the Nou Camp.

• Pique includes Stones in world dream team

When Everton manager Roberto Martínez informed Stones, 21, that the club would not accept Chelsea’s bid of well over £30 million during the summer, he added that he would one day move somewhere better than Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea having comfortably won last season’s Premier League title, it was hard to know where Martínez was referring to but it may well be that he had Barcelona in mind – especially given the good relationship that has been fostered between the European champions and Everton over Gerard Deulofeu.

Stones remained at Everton last summer despite bids from Chelsea

Moving abroad so early in his career might be a step Stones is unwilling to take. Another obstacle in the way of Barcelona’s interest would be his fee.

Having seen off repeated bids from Chelsea, Everton will demand over £40  million when they eventually agree to sell and Barcelona do not traditionally pay the biggest money on central defenders.

• Messi is still Barcelona and world number one, says Suarez

Chelsea will almost certainly make another play for Stones, in January or at the end of the season, but they also face major competition from Manchester United.

United have long held an interest in Stones but decided against being drawn into a bidding war with Chelsea in the summer. That will now change, however, with the player moving higher and higher up their list of targets.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho still blames many of the difficulties his side have encountered on the failure to sign Stones. The Portuguese believes a ball-playing central defender would have relieved the pressure on midfield duo Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, and given the team a better balance.

Stones again demonstrated his ability on the ball against France and made it clear he would not compromise by simply playing safe when faced with top opponents.

• Berahino added to Chelsea transfer targets

“You’ve got to keep doing what you know and not go into your shell,” said Stones. “That’s the only way I’m going to improve, by taking risks sometimes, and the France game was a great opportunity to do that and to showcase myself.”

Mourinho will now be concerned that Chelsea could have missed their big opportunity to land Stones as United are capable of outbidding them and the summer saga has left a bitter taste in Everton mouths.

Jose Mourinho was furious Chelsea didn't sign Stones in the summer

Despite handing in a transfer request to try to force through a move to Chelsea, Stones has proved with his performances that he remains happy at Everton and there is now a feeling that he will be best served by seeing out the season at Goodison Park.

There is also no prospect of Stones letting all the interest go to his head before next summer’s European Championship.

He responded to Martínez’s claim that he would one day captain England by saying: “I smile at first and probably forget by the next day. That’s a good thing because it doesn’t play on my mind as much as it could. It’s so humbling to hear that from my manager and from a lot of peers that say it as well and, hopefully, in the future that can come true.”

Was only a matter of time before those links surfaced but do find it a bit amusing that it is from Matt Law - he seems determind to sell Stones for us!

We said Doug , some on here were convinced 28 mil was a good price for us to take in the summer.
This lad really is that special the real Big clubs will be fighting over him after the Euro's....How much was Sterling ?

Normally I'd love to say "I told you so" Louie but not here mate... he's going to be fantastic this lad and Chelsea haven't got a chance now, Stones deserves better than a minor London club.

Every window we hold on to him is an achievement. He's going to the very, very top and while I'd love for that to be with us, I don't think we'll get the investment required to get there. When he goes, we need to bleed the club dry. It's gotta be for at least sixty.

Chelsea ALREADY worried new John Stones transfer bid in January will get rejected
The champions had a string of summer offers turned down and the defender is more settled at Everton now than he was then as he focuses on the Euros
England-v-France-International-Friendly
Mane man: Stones is understood to be unwilling to disrupt his season with a Euros spot to protect
Chelsea fear they could fail with a fresh bid to land John Stones in January.
The struggling champions have Everton’s England centre-back in their sights again, after failing with a string of big-money bids for him during the summer.
Fellow defender Papy Djilobodji - signed by Chelsea instead from French club Nantes - has played just ONE minute of football for Jose Mourinho's men, and is set to move on when the winter window opens.
Stones is not as desperate to force his way out in January, however, as he was in August.
Back then, the 21-year-old handed in a transfer request to try to force a move to west London.
Chelsea-Press-Conference
New year, same answer? Mourinho is likely to try for Stones again in the January window
Now, he is settled at Goodison Park, and although initial talks over a new deal have yet to progress he remains focused on helping Everton into Europe.
He is also understood to be unwilling to disrupt his season as he pushes for a place in Roy Hodgson’s final England squad for next summer’s European Championship.
It means his future is now more likely to be decided next summer.
Stones has three and a half years left on his £30,000-a-week deal.
Everton want to increase those wages and hand him a longer contract to fend off Chelsea, and a number of other big clubs who are now circling.
Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique recently included Stones in his world XIto reflect the esteem in which he is held across Europe.

The former Barnsley starlet once again displayed his maturity in Tuesday’s highly-charged friendly against France.
“I’ve been through a lot, I have grown in stature and age, now I want to bring something to the England team,” he said.
Everton are ninth in the League, four points off the top six.
Chelsea sit 16th after a disastrous opening having lost seven of their 12 games.

Suspect Martinez would much rather sell to Barca than anyone else. It protects our rep as 'not a selling club' because no one can begrudge a player wanting to go there, especially if we got a fair deal.

Spot on

Galloway
Stones
Barkley
Deulofeu
Lukaku

5 players we need to keep. Offer them big money to re-sign 5+ year deals and bring in two more to add to the group this summer. Butland and another...show them we mean business.

We should sit Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu and Galloway down and offer them the chance to build a legacy not seen since United's team of the 90's. The influx of tv money should be used to give this crop of players the chance to achieve everything at Everton. Hopefully one or two others can come through the ranks and we can find a goalkeeper of top class calibre too.

We simply cannot afford to lose any of those 5 mentioned.

Stones is gone, he Doesn't believe in the club and believes he better then us. All we can do is get the best price for him next summer.
