praises to negativity so fast? a kid clearly developing and been doing a great job. i was impressed he came out in the second, was able to put it behind him and get on with it. the only way he is going to learn is by making mistakes and playing more. even if we loan him out next season, like we did coleman which ended in massive success

Eh? This is a 20 year old kid who’s been with us for what over 10 years, I don’t think it’s in his nature to even try to unsettle our dressing room just because he’s got Seamus ahead of him. Even our dressing room shouldn’t be as bad as to have their balance upset by a 20 year old kid, they’re virtually all experienced international players and i can’t believe Silva would be so weak as to let it.
You totally misunderstood my post mate. Having read it again it wasn't worded very well

I was trying to point out that, if we replace JJ (who is our back up RB) with somebody better, that player is still going to be a back up to Seamus, and he may not like it. I wasn't saying JJ might be a disruptive influence, but the player we brought in to replace him.

I actually think it's ideal to have our own young lads as back up players provided they are good enough, which I personally think he is. He may or may not improve enough to be our first choice in the future, in which case we will need to buy somebody else in, and hopefully one of our future youth players will be good enough to take his place as back up and JJ can have a career elsewhere. Think he'll definitely have a career in the premier. Just not sure that will be with us if we do break into the elite.

All the top sides in the premier league have had good depth, with united they had some average defenders (at best) as backup.

Its quite clear that Kenny is already developing into a premier league player, what level we dont know yet.

Hes a perfect backup option, as are the rest of the u21 players we have on the books who can fill out the squad which enables us to use our funds for first 11 players.

My money would be on Silva replacing coleman before kenny.

I wouldn't be surprised either Zat.

The question for me is whether Kenny will ever be good enough to become our first choice, assuming Silva continues to take us forward and we do become a club that challenges for CL qualification on a regular basis. I'd say that Seamus at his best is at that level. Whether he get's that form back remains to be seen, but even if he does he's probably only got maybe 2/3 seasons at that level given he's just turned 30.

Hopefully Kenny will reach that level. People talk about his lack of athleticism holding him back but I think too much emphasis is put on that these days. He's a very clever player with his overlapping and his delivery from wide area's is very good when he get's into those positions. He will improve defensively with age and also get more consistent.

If he doesn't quite reach that level we want then we need to let him go by the time he's 23/24. It would be unfair to him to keep him as back up when he could have a very good premier career elsewhere, plus it would free up a space in the squad for another promising youngster.

Id keep him long term as a squad player even if hes not top notch...

You miss the point Zat. He probably wouldn't stay just to be back up if he know he can have a decent career at another premier club, and playing all the time would increase his chances of getting into the England squad.

I hope he turns out to be top notch and good enough for us, but he has a lot of improving to do first.

I think a lot of that group who won the under 23’s are at a cross roads. Some haven’t really been given a chance. I think that’s a culmination of them not being quite good enough and Everton now being a different team, that wants to try and move up the table quickly.

Maybe a lot of them in the next 12 months will move on and the next group will be brought forward to train with the 1st team and see if any of them can take their chance.

I think the club will make a decision on Robinson or Connolly as back up to Digne next season. The other will go. I also think Williams, Pennington and some of the older lads from the U23s who haven't made the first team will go. Dowell I think will go on loan, hopefully to a club in Germany. Baningime may get a loan to the championship. The rest of the young lads are developing well with the first team squad and should continue into next season IMO. Holgate, Kenny, Davies, Lookman and DCL. Lookman may be sold if we are indeed looking to bring Lozano on board.

Do Germany have a 4th tier for Dowell?
