You shouldn't need a 3rd specialist right back, that's the whole thing in a nutshell for me. City, Liverpool etc don't have 3 players who are just waiting to play right back, I just don't understand why we think we do. He simply can't play left back in my opinion. He can fill in there in an emergency, but if he was to play any more than a handful of games there it would be a massive problem.

He could still walk on a free at the end of this contract, just having cost us more.

£40K is not buttons for a player who doesn't play.
It's a role that any U23 (as in, actually under 23 years old) should be able to fill.

There's no need to pay someone a senior wage to hopefully never play a first team game.

Maybe the reason unsworth has "left to pursue other options"

Playing devils advocate here as a possible reason that nothings coming through they think is even ready to sit on the bench at either left or right.

Best ive got as i dont rate kenny at all.

Probably signed it ages ago but the club are too embarrassed and will just include the news on a footnote somewhere during the summer that he's staying until 2026.

When the retained list eventually gets published, it will just be, Kenny signed a new deal. And then move on to the fact that tosun has left and wishing him well.

JJ Kenny staying or leaving will not define Everton transfer activity this summer.
He will stay as a squad player that can cover a couple of positions and I would guess in terms of Premiership footballers his salary will not be huge.

It is a little unusual for him to stay but the manager obviously sees a role for him.

Our transfer activity in midfield is what will define the summer window for me.
I am making the bold assumption that Tarkoswki is the new centre back.

Agree with this.

Midfield needs a complete overhaul. Need creativity and physicality. So many teams go straight through us. JJK wont make a blind bit of difference if we can't score and are open to every single attack.

Unfortunately because of the last 5 years' transfer non-strategy, i dont think RB is now a priority. JJK & Patterson should be competing for this, Coleman playing once in a while if at all, (even though his captaincy is apparently really good, and we need a senior player) and we should be spending time & money on CB, CM and a striker to compete with DCL

Jonjoe Kenny is a great utility player and it would be a shrewd move to give him a new deal. Lots of fans saying Farhad Moshiri should back off and let Frank Lampard do his job; well Frank Lampard has offered the lad a new deal, so maybe the fans should STFU and let him do his job also.

It all depends on his wages. If the equivalent player (2/3rd choice backup) at most other prem teams demand a similar wage then it might be pointless to get rid of him. We might only replace him with a player of similar caliber and wage demands.

Trouble is, usually this kind of player is younger and has potential. I don't see anything to suggest that he'll drastically improve or push the players ahead of him to preform better. Whilst 25 isn't that old, you would have expected to have seen some sparks if usefulness by now. He'll be almost 30 when he leaves this club, his whole career for a Premier league team when imo he's a league 1/ championship starter.
