Jonny Evans. Strongly linked by proper newspapers. Hmm.

Assuming he comes for, lets say, 6m upfront, then is he ?

Few things to point out...

He's got a year left. Any price we pay should be half of his value at most.
United don't want him as a back up as they haven't even opened talks with him.
Go have a look at Utd forums. They're not sad to be losing him and are laughing at the fee

Any link to utd forum?

How do you know he is overhyped, take in a lot of Crystal Palace games? They seemed that hyped about him that he won their Player of the Year award.

Don't need to really - do you?

I remember him from his Blackburn days.....when they went down. I remember him from his B'ham days...when they went down.

Roger Johnson won PoS for wolves once - what happened to him? PoS means he's had a good season, is all.

Then they're idiots as its at least half that. If it's even happening.

Would you honestly pay £16m for Scott Dann?

Forget Evans while you answer that.
You pay what a club think they are worth. He has proven to be a good player for them, they didn't want to lose him. He is a POTY for a top 10 team.

United want rid of Evans and he couldn't even get in the team ahead of McNair! Bet they can't believe their luck. This is a panic buy.

Eight million quid for an erratic, injury prone player in the last year of his contract. Looks like good business to me.

Snap the hand of them [Poor language removed]. As long as he leaves his missus at MUTV

Unless stones is leaving it looks like terrible business for everton as surely jags and stones would be first choice and 8m is a lot for am everton reserve.

It's the correct fee. He is capable of being a very good centre back. He's proven that before. And he's been very poor of late and is struggling to remain fit.

Think the fee is quite reasonable and hope this is true. Have nothing against Evans but it's the right move for him and the club. He can be an efficient defender, but just lacks the mental toughness when he's called upon to play a major role back there. We can't deal with this any longer - need a big bad [Poor language removed] back there who is not afraid of anything or anyone.
@Brownie

Van Gaal is really getting rid of all the crap. I used to think he would develop into a good solid defender for United but now he's 27 and still has big question marks about him.

£8m is a ok fee too

Really torn about this transfer. He has so much ability, but needs a kick up his backside once in while to get him performing. Fergie used to really unleash it Evans. Everton should have to pay a premium to get him, sell him at this price if it is anyone else.

Seems a very good bit of business by us if true, start proceedings with stones

If you get 8 million for him that is a brilliant deal for United.

Fantastic bit of business. I'm glad we're getting rid tbh.

I've seen a lot of Utd fans saying some of the stick he gets is unwarranted. I don't think he'd be that bad as cover but £8m is too much considering he's only got a year left. Something like £4m plus £2m add ons would be reasonable.

He was decent at both of them clubs and won a trophy with one. Also I highly doubt you watched a lot of Birmingham and Blackburn either.

He has been praised by fans for whatever club he has played for.

You pay what you can reasonably afford to pay in relation to how desperately you need or want the player. Dann was by no conceivable measure worth 15m quid of our money.
