He was late back from the WC and could easily have got back in the fold before the end of pre-season but didn't. His actions on the pitch -
running out of his area when he should have stayed put against Wolves;
arguing with his defenders;
leaving his foot in on Ings and chancing a red; t
aking huge chances passing out - indicate that he sees PL football with Everton as a chore rather than an honour...and he's encouraged to think that way because he has Stekelenburg as his understudy. "

2. Can't remember him running out tbh. But him becoming a sweeper is part and parcel of us playing with a higher line. If the defence pushes up but Pickford doesn't that leaves an awful lot of room to exploit. He will get caught out doing it but it's what is asked of him in the new system.
3. The argument you are referencing is between him and Holgate I believe. This was because there was a Huddersfield (maybe Southampton) player down injured and Holgate wanted to play on but Pickford elected to kick it out of play. There's nothing in it.
4. I'd argue protection but I can see your point about doing it against the top 6.
5. He's being asked to do it. Silva wants us to play out from the back and that includes Pickford. Of course there will be times he gets caught doing it (as we all know) but I don't think he is particularly risky with his pass selection for Everton. He takes more risks with England if anything but of course its easier when you have Stones and other players who want the ball instead of our team who cower at the mere mention of potentially receiving the ball.
