2018/19 Jordan Pickford

I'd say also that retaining Stekelenburg and not getting a good GK to keep Pickford on his toes was another massive mistake of the summer window. It's sent out the message to him that he's undroppable. That cant be right in any position, most crucially of all though in THAT position.
I said this the day the window ended and no on agreed, it was a big mistake, everyone was carried away with players we did get when it was obvious we needed another keeper in the summer, i was worried in case Pickford got injured or a red card, having a viable backup to keep him on his toes is right

GK and another striker was needed. Yes we needed a LB and a CB, but we should have been able to get players at GK and FW who could place big pressure on the ones we had.

He was in the press saying he'd never do anything like what Allison did and there he is kicking it straight to opponents.

It's needless comments like those that will come back and bite you in sport. He looks like he's overconfident bordering on arrogant and that needs nipped in the bud. Do your job and cut out the fuss and theatrics.

'It's a risk - if it comes off it looks good,' said Pickford. 'But if it doesn't... It's a style of play and I think that's the way Liverpool want to play as well.
'Mistakes will happen and it's about not making the next one. I'm going to try not to put myself in that position to make those mistakes.
'It's the timing of the game, really. You don't want to get too comfortable if you're winning and start trying to be a No 10.
'If it's on to do I'll do it and if it's not we'll manage the game. That's where I learn more. The more games you play the more game management you learn.'

Much ado about nothing with that 'quote'.

All apologies graciously accepted.....

.
What are you banging on about now? When you play for Sunderland and then Everton you're going to let a lot of goals in.
Pickford is the last player to worry about when we have 'that team' of static jokes playing in front of him.

If he stopped goals, which is his job, then he wouldnt let all those goals in, correct? In other words, he is blantantly not doing his job, and hasnt done it for seasons. You can blame the CBs for some of those goals and Jordan is still responsible for a big amount of them. Tosun gets a lot of flak these days, but he’s doing a lot better than Pickford. People need to stop making excuses for him. He’s been fairly poor since signing, neither his age nor passport can change that.

There is so much wrong with this post. Comparing the form of a striker to a goalkeeper and then calling him a poor signing when he has took the England no. 1 spot and won all of the player of the year awards for us last season. But yeah, he's had an unimpressive start to a season so that means he's crap and was crap for the entirety of last season as well by proxy. What a ridiculous post.

I can't remember the last time we started a season and thought 'That's us we're ready' I'm happy enough with Pickford but we need serious competition for him, how have we got 3/4 new signings unfit and coming into the side in dribs and drabs? we've got top 6 aspirations but their squads are far more ready than ours, it's like yeah 'we'll have a good squad halfway through the season when all our new signings are match fit' that's not good enough and the blame lies firmly with the board for not being decisive enough pre season.
Not being ready for the season is now telling, the spotlight has now turned onto the manager (Who I would like to give time to) and the players ,some of who are simply not good enough and some who are being let down and exposed by those around them which has left Pickford in the dock.
Our style of play has changed and Pickford is having to cope with his role playing from the back, he's going to make mistakes and being a goalie these are occasionally going to be consequential, it will take time for him to adapt but in the mean time lets try and get in some serious competition for him to work with.

Being the England keeper means nothing, the days of boss British goalies has long gone, all the top clubs have foreign goalies. Who else could have won the players awards after last seasons farce ? He is still relatively young so has some time on his side, do agree with other posters he needs to cut out the Hartesque behaviour, get your head down and keep a low profile, will be difficult as you can see the accolades have gone to his head.

In what way mate? The interview he gave regarding Alisson?

No the interview was nothing really just papers trying to generate a story.
I think the over-excitement after a save, the pumped up energy sapping crap he does, believing his own hype, insisting on playing from the back when I personally don't think he is all that with his feet, his general demeanour is not one of the cool, calm and collected keeper whose coolness affects everyone around him in a positive way. Don't think dropping him even if we had a good enough replacement is needed, all top teams tend to have their number 1 and stick with him through thick and thin (De Gea had many problems when he first started at Utd).

Pickford showed what he could do with defenders that aren't pants in front of him at the World Cup.

There isn't a goalkeeper in the world that will stop everything if opponents get put through cleanly time and time again.

The evidence suggests that he's not the problem.

The Arsenal fans down south here were pretty annoyed that we took Virginia off them, he is seemingly very highly rated by them and the fans wanted to keep him. however i don't know whether he is quite at a level of a Donnarumma in terms of being able to step up at a young age, he seems to be a bit of a one off.

It totally depends on the person. Making a save for a goalkeeper can be like scoring a goal is for a striker. If its good enough then it should be rightfully celebrated. Not sure its that energy sapping though. I do agree that in general the calm goalkeepers are better but I think that comes with age and experience. I think Pickford is the least of our worries at present, people just like to point the finger.
