2018/19 Jordan Pickford

I can't remember the last time we started a season and thought 'That's us we're ready' I'm happy enough with Pickford but we need serious competition for him, how have we got 3/4 new signings unfit and coming into the side in dribs and drabs? we've got top 6 aspirations but their squads are far more ready than ours, it's like yeah 'we'll have a good squad halfway through the season when all our new signings are match fit' that's not good enough and the blame lies firmly with the board for not being decisive enough pre season.
Not being ready for the season is now telling, the spotlight has now turned onto the manager (Who I would like to give time to) and the players ,some of who are simply not good enough and some who are being let down and exposed by those around them which has left Pickford in the dock.
Our style of play has changed and Pickford is having to cope with his role playing from the back, he's going to make mistakes and being a goalie these are occasionally going to be consequential, it will take time for him to adapt but in the mean time lets try and get in some serious competition for him to work with.
I dont think it's a technical issue with Pickford, it's attitude.

He was late back from the WC and could easily have got back in the fold before the end of pre-season but didn't. His actions on the pitch - running out of his area when he should have stayed put against Wolves; arguing with his defenders; leaving his foot in on Ings and chancing a red; taking huge chances passing out - indicate that he sees PL football with Everton as a chore rather than an honour...and he's encouraged to think that way because he has Stekelenburg as his understudy.

I doubt we'll see a new GK in January, but next summer a GK becomes a priority. I've said before that I'd sell Pickford and recycle the cash in a heartbeat. I see an average GK and if we can hoodwink some mugs to hand over £40M or so for him then do that.

The Arsenal fans down south here were pretty annoyed that we took Virginia off them, he is seemingly very highly rated by them and the fans wanted to keep him. however i don't know whether he is quite at a level of a Donnarumma in terms of being able to step up at a young age, he seems to be a bit of a one off.
Well let's give it a go in the cup game against S'ton.

Pickford is still a decent GK though but needs an experienced and still ambitious GK pushing him all the way.

It totally depends on the person. Making a save for a goalkeeper can be like scoring a goal is for a striker. If its good enough then it should be rightfully celebrated. Not sure its that energy sapping though. I do agree that in general the calm goalkeepers are better but I think that comes with age and experience. I think Pickford is the least of our worries at present, people just like to point the finger.
Deffo, but this is the Pickford thread.I think some of the fans rightfully thought that after paying a massive amount for a GK that this position would be sorted for years to come, it still may be but its not the done deal many thought it was.

I like you as a poster mate but that paragraph is quite possibly the biggest load of crap I've read on this forum.

Pickford showed what he could do with defenders that aren't pants in front of him at the World Cup.

There isn't a goalkeeper in the world that will stop everything if opponents get put through cleanly time and time again.

The evidence suggests that he's not the problem.
Didn't he only keep one clean sheet at the World Cup

He was eye catching let's say then. That save against Colombia being the highlight. Made a few penalty saves. A few other decent saves. Dion;t make any mistakes.

Against the likes of Rob Green's and Joe Hart's recent performances at tournaments this was amazing!

So I see Everton's World Cup hero is no longer good enough for a side that literally included JonJoe Kenny, Mason Holgate and Morgan Schneiderlin at the weekend.

Love ya, GOT

:coffee:

So his performances where massively overstated

No because judging goalkeeper's performances on clean sheets is the biggest nonsense in the world. If it was all about clean sheets then Nigel Martyn doesn't win our player of the season award in 2003/04 for singlehandedly keeping us in the league, because he didn't keep many clean sheets so he can't have been good.
