2018/19 Jordan Pickford

If he's the best outside the top 6, it certainly isn't comfortably.

He's not a terrible goalkeeper by any means, but he's really not been that great either. I'm not sure what it is about him that makes people so sensitive to criticism, but he should be scrutinised like any other player. If a striker scored 5 goals in 50 games we'd be on his back, no matter how good the service was, so why are people so desperate to defend a goalkeeper who's conceded 123 goals in 74 PL games?
I would agree. There a few good goalkeepers in the league (Ryan, Pope, Dubravka, Schmeichel and Patricio) but the gap between them and the top 6 is massive. I would put Pickford ahead of them but still some way off the others (not including Cech and probably Alisson).

I would like to see how he is around December time when we've settled with the new defensive system and have a settled back 4 and midfield. I can't really think of a time since he's been here when we've had a run with a settled back 4 and he still won all of the end of season awards (granted, that it wasn't hard).

I also agree that he should be scrutinised like any other player but some on here go ridiculously over board while trying to defend some of our players because they run around loads.

You could play a 17 year old in that scenario and he’d probably thrive. Pickford is supposed to be that last line of defence.

Massively overhyped at Sunderland and his acrobatic dives got people all excited
he was primarily bought for his shot stopping and excellent distribution but having a lack lustre defence in front him isn't going to give him much confidence imo....

Schmeichel over Pickford for me, but that's also comparing a young GK to a GK in his prime, not entirely fair.

Pickford has potential and I'm optimistic about his time at Everton. However, the praise by the media and on here has been far too generous. His distribution especially stands out as a cause of concern, both this season and last. He's an excellent shot-stopper as others have said, and he will have been disappointed not to save the shot from outside the box.

What irks me with these latest comments: "he played in a WC semi". Yeah lad, England lucked their way into that stage, and you could make a long list of bang average players that has been there before. It's no indicator of greatness, just that England really lack a top-class keeper.

Current PL GKs better than Billy Big Bollocks:

De Gaa
Courtois
Alison
Schmeichel
Pope
Cech
Leno
McCarthy
Bravo
Kepa
Butland

Pickford on the same level as Hennessy, Fabianksi, Ospina.

Conceded an outrageous amount for someone at his career stage.

2 of them don't play in the Premier League.

1 hasn't played in the premier league and apparently had a bit of a nightmare last season in Germany.

Shouts of McCarthy, Pope and Bravo are absolutely laughable mate. Schmeichel is close but he is also at his peak where Pickford isn't.

The age thing is a bit unnecessary (he's 24). Quite a few of the present day top GK's aren't (a lot) older and/or had already won a variety of personal accolades by his age. He's had a good WC. Stekelenburg also had a good one in 2010 (one of the standout performers for the Netherlands back then); including this save:

I don't think he'll develop into a top GK.

Been saying this since before we signed him. Loads of people are using the hugely outdated idea of keepers not peaking until they're in their 30s when it's not been the case for years. He'll be 25 by the end of the season, this should be the beginning of his peak.

any keeper better than the WC winning Lloris will do for us :)

TBH some of them are probably better than Pickford but theres no way in hell I would swap him for Cech, Bravo, Butland or Schmeical and the jury is most certainly still out on Allison, Kepa and Leno so I don't think you can say they are better than him after 5 games in the premier league
