2018/19 Jordan Pickford

Thought it it was quite ironic that Pickford gave an interview to the media saying he wouldn’t do stupid things like Allison and then booted the ball straight to the opposition player and cost us a goal in his next game.

Kopites loved that didn't they. I would say that in truth it wasn't a mistake like Alisson. He got caught doing what the manager wants him to do whereas Alisson got caught trying to be clever. I doubt even Klopp wants his goalkeepers doing Cruyff turns.

But it was always going to happen as soon as he said it.

He atoned for the Ings mistake. It happens. It was a dipping, swerving shot. It wasn't an easy one to deal with, even though he should have dealt with it.

Yesterday he made a cock up with that clearance. Digne and Zouma for some reason handed Yarmolenko the freedom of the park to cut in on his better foot and Pickford should have known to step to his right.

He's 24. The entire defence is abysmal at doing it's actual job, and the rest of the team for that matter.

This is my point. As a team, we don't defend with any calm or assurance, no matter who is playing. So to pin everything on the goalkeeper - who was by far and away our best player over the last 12 months - is ludicrous.

I’m not pinning EVERYTHING at him. Bit people saying he’s a top GK are wrong. I hate to agree with @davek but he looks like he thinks he is billy big balls. He is a decent shot stopper but that’s all, people on here big up our own players beyond belief. His distribution is poor, he doesn’t command his box, he doesn’t catch shots and he is making mistakes at a ratio greater than 1 out of 2 games, he’s goals conceeded in his career is huge and his clean sheets are low.

Did he?

He didn't get close to any of the big chances we missed bar that Tosun header straight at him.

Pickford didn't have a save to make apart from the goals and a header that was straight at him.

Had our finishing being better, we'd have drawn or won. That's the fine margins. And we were awful.

See you’re forgetting about the Tuson shot from the edge of the area low to the keepers right

He held digne free kick instead of parrying like Pickford probably would

He's not yet a top GK. He has the potential to be.

Which fits, because we're not a top team.

Someone said yesterday 'a top six side wins that easy'. Yes, they probably do, but we're not a top six side and nothing about us says top six.

That was an easy stop. Pickford made a similar one.

If that had gone in it would have been a bigger howler than Pickford's.

Telegraphed shot, easy save.

Edit: I do rate Fabianski, btw. He's been West Ham's best player this season and is a good keeper overall.

Going off that theory we will never be top six then,we will sign players that are I tested in the prem or young or that have played well for teams lower than us, then sell them if they ever actually do improve enough for the top six.

He has potential? Everyone has havnt they? He’s a shot stopper reckon any keeper in the prem can be classed as that personally . Robles can keep more clean sheets than him so what does that tell you

He's the best goalkeeper outside of the top six. He's 24 and has made well over 100 PL appearances and has got to a World Cup semi-final. He's going to keep improving. He needs to sharpen up because at the moment he's not in good form, and defensively the team is dreadful.

Almost like people have an agenda and will blame everything they can on a player not being good enough when he is comfortably the best goalkeeper outside of the top 6. Which is where we are at.
If he's the best outside the top 6, it certainly isn't comfortably.

He's not a terrible goalkeeper by any means, but he's really not been that great either. I'm not sure what it is about him that makes people so sensitive to criticism, but he should be scrutinised like any other player. If a striker scored 5 goals in 50 games we'd be on his back, no matter how good the service was, so why are people so desperate to defend a goalkeeper who's conceded 123 goals in 74 PL games?

he's a young lad who's gunna make mistakes got to learn from them but having a solid defence midfield and powerful attack in front of him would only help him....

You could play a 17 year old in that scenario and he’d probably thrive. Pickford is supposed to be that last line of defence.

Massively overhyped at Sunderland and his acrobatic dives got people all excited

That’s my point , Pickford doesn’t look any better than a normal prem GK.
