Didn't say he had...
Just making the point about his character...
He was very fortunate not to give a penalty away last night & would have looked very foolish...
Would like to see him more dominant from corners & commanding his six yard box...
Gets too excited & rushes out of his goal, needs to make better judgement calls...
Fair comment Eggs...I’m old and prefer a conventional and commanding goalie. Pickford seems a bit different. He was our Player of the Season, is great in one-on-one situations and a decent shop stopper. He is clearly a confident boy with a reputation for being a very good distributor from the back and has already earned himself a high profile within the game. He’s arguably our most well known player.
I’m a bit ‘on the fence’ with him. I’m ok with him but I never quite feel safe with him. The club rewarded him with a big new contract, so I assume Brands/Silva see him as our future.
Think you’re watching a different player to me, Chief.
This is the correct way of appraising any players performance. Too many on here only list either the good or the bad, depending on what suits their opinion.Fair comment Eggs.
Like opinion with a lot of our players on here. He's either absolutely brilliant or absolutely crap. When the truth is, as usual, somewhere in the middle.
In goalkeeping terms he is still very young. Even at this age he is the best keeper we have had since Martyn and Southall, but he still has a lot to learn before he is classed as good as them. In my opinion he will never be as good as Nev who has to go down as one of the best keepers in the world, ever. So there's absolutely no shame whatsoever in not reaching those heights.
I understand your concerns with him Eggs, but the game is changing and Jordan epitomises what is required from the modern day keeper. I also think that, once Silva get's his own team together, he will fit snugly into the style of football we will be playing. I also think his attitude is great. He's a winner and a leader. People saying otherwise must have some sort of agenda or are just massive WUMs. Yes, he still has a lot to learn, but he has time on his side and I have no doubt he will improve. The way the money in the game is going I wouldn't be at all surprised if he became the first £100m keeper.
As regards last nights game, I think it's fair to say that we saw both the best and worst of Jordan. His distribution directly led to the first 2 goals, but we also saw a couple of mistakes that could very easily have led to goals against, but he was lucky enough to get away with both. I felt a bit sorry for him with the first one. He got a bobble just before he was going to clear and the ball then got stuck between his legs. I don't think he pre-planned the Cruyff turn and it isn't something I've seen from him before, so it isn't something that overly concerns me. I am more concerned about the second error when he parried the ball out into the path of the Spanish forward, and was lucky to see it rebound wide. This is something we see far too often from the lad and I'm not sure whether it is technical issue, but I'm sure our keeping coach is working on it and hopefully it will be ironed out sooner rather than later.
Great post mate.Fair comment Eggs.

A lot of good constructive criticism there Marcus.Respect your opinion...
However there are flaws & they need to be pointed out...
He does not command his six yard box from corners, just watch him...
Makes rash decisions too often..needs to mature into a more calming influence behind the defence...
Overstates saves making them look spectacular...
He can improve on all the above as he is still a young keeper, but he must learn & work on his weaknesses to become a better keeper...
That's the one he does far too often and really needs to sort out.I am more concerned about the second error when he parried the ball out into the path of the Spanish forward, and was lucky to see it rebound wide. Overall I agree, and he also pats the ball down and collects a bit too much for my liking, but I'm not too sure what he could've done with the Spanish one as I'm not sure where else he could've parried it and it is struck with some force too. That's the one he does far too often and really needs to sort out.
What does that even mean ?
I know what you're getting at, but terrible example... you know with the voice thingThey both sound thick When he talks he makes Forrest Gump sound like Steven hawkings
Maybe, but my concern is that it happens all the time. He's always parrying shots out into the middle of the goal rather than away from goal. Maybe it's his natural technique, I don't know. I'm sure he doesn't intend to do it.Overall I agree, and he also pats the ball down and collects a bit too much for my liking, but I'm not too sure what he could've done with the Spanish one as I'm not sure where else he could've parried it and it is struck with some force too.
