Actually they signed one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in the world on loan of chelsea. After Chelsea had spent 10 million on him back when spending 10 million was a lot for a 19 year old. He didn't start the season first choice keeper but quickly became the number 1 within a few weeks of the new season after good performances in the Europa leauge.

Was also the same season they brought simeone in but not untill the december of that season mind

They loaned him to Atleti to find his feet and then started him when Cech began to wain.

Chelsea were spending lots of money on players then. He was very highly rated, as was Lukaku, but imagine the chat on here if we had done the same.

'14 cleansheets in Belgium means nothing, my mum could do that and she's 4'11 and been dead for 6 years'

'Belgium goalkeeper of the year is the equivalent of winning the friendship trophy'

'Genk player of the year...if Martina played there he'd win it every year. Pub League'.

Our 'edgy' fan base element would be getting themselves all worked up trying to find imaginative ways of calling him garbage.

Look I posted it last night as we know the press will try to have him sold to Real Madrid or Barcelona at some stage and will be telling us we should let him go etc....

Hopefully we have bigger balls and keep him and build a bloody good team around him. Think there are other players in that England squad who clubs may be tempted to cash in on though as they will never be worth the same amount again.

Yeah they got him, lukaku and Dr bryune all around the same time if I remember correctly.

Tbh though I don't think there would be that much uproar about it. More to the contrary in fact, look at how the reports of us being linked with Tierney everyone seemed made up with that.
