From a manager's perspective I of course don't know if Pickford is crucial to our backline or team in total,but were any of those players crucial to their team at the time? Sometimes the key players should be kept for the time needed ,and at this moment I believe Pickford could be a really important player for the next year or three.

Neymar maybe wasnt a crucial player to Barca, CR7 to United? Think they still won the league after he went, so no, Bales was pretty crucial to Spurs and whilst it could be said they wasted most of the money from his sale, they did use it to bring in Eriksen who is now pretty crucial.

Look I agree with you, if we want to improve, we cant keep selling our better players and it would be nice to keep hold of them and build a team around them, but we get offered very good money and most of the fees are hard to turn down, plus once a player wants away, its very, very hard to keep them against their will.
