I agree that he's not great yet mate. I think he's a very good goalkeeper who could go on to become great. But, he has a lot of work to do. Our own fans - or some of them - seem to have taken a dislike to him because he did brilliantly at the World Cup.

He does need to jib the kicks but in fairness I think he only did one yesterday which was a Robertson mistake away from putting Richarlison in. Robertson did brilliantly to judge it right. It's such an asset to have that I don't mind him doing that in that situation, because at the end of the day all that ultimately led to them winning the game yesterday was VVD swinging a boot at it.

And yes, agree it was entirely avoidable. My point is whatever Pickford did in that situation, there was a risk.

Yes, he could have let it hit the bar and it would most likely have gone out. But what if it hadn't? Do you run that risk?

Yes, he could have tipped it over. But what if they'd scored from the corner?

What he shouldn't have done is what he did which is hesitate and get stuck in between and then tried to recover by parrying it out of danger.

He gets a big hand to it and puts it over the bar. Its Goalkeeping 101. There is no other option.

I think goalies overthink things these days, get it away from danger, that's what they are there for.

If they score from the resulting corner then they score from it. No blame would go on the goalie there as he did his job.

This arrogance BS needs to stop, you don't know that at all. You just made an assumption and stuck with it because you think it makes you sound clever.

Besides your favourite manager of all time promoted arrogance in his footballers.

Or is that a different kind of arrogance that doesn't suit what you're saying?

To be fair to davek he is not the only one to have thrown the arrogance thing at him.

I don't get it personally like...but I don't think its a thing he has invented on his own either.

Then stop defending this GK on this morning of all mornings. Be honest about it.

But Dave the reds threw their goalkeeper under the bus having lost the CL final. We are better than that. Even in moments of enormous disappointment and difficulty we are better than that.

I happen to agree with you that his arrogance, in choosing to try to do the very difficult rather than the simple is the key mistake. However you can't have it both was. His distribution yesterday (particularly taking the ball in challenging situations) to allow us to beat the press yesterday was very important to the game plan. This is also a product of his confidence/arrogance.

I'm not sure we can ask our teams to play with flair and confidence one minute and then pan them for when a mistake happens as a result of this.

Right there you have your finger on the problem with Pickford. He's guilty of that all the time and it will always prove costly. He just doesn't have the focus to be a very good goalkeeper, nevermind a great one. It's that hesitation that will prove costly time after time.

I'm not defending him from people saying it was a horrendous cock-up, nobody is! I'm taking the side of sanity and saying that you and others are going well OTT, being ludicrous and frankly embarrassing yourselves with some of this nonsense.

Yep, a really dreadful error. Nobody will say otherwise.

But it doesn't mean he's an awful goalkeeper. It doesn't mean he's not going to improve.

Not at all, I think he's excellent. He won't make another mistake as bad as that in the rest of his career in my opinion.

I just hope he learns from it and realises that there can be no taking chances like that in fixtures of this magnitude ever again. If it was a defeat against Brighton or someone, it'd be frustrating but nothing like the seriousness of how badly he's let himself down and the fans with this one.

But he needs full support on Wednesday.

Firstly, I dont condemn Liverpool for getting shut of Karius. They were correct to do so. It was only funny to have a go at a club's supporters who have the YNWA motto doing the throwing under the bus that was pathetic.

Second, his disatribution is not a plus, so there's no taking the rough with the smooth about it for me.

We have an arrogant fool in goal who just cost us. Why is that so hard to accept?
