2018/19 Jordan Pickford

Are you serious? We're notorious for the abuse we dish out to our own players.
Except we're not really. That's a total myth. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen a largue number of our fans abuse our own players. A handful of bells acting up every now and then does not make our fansbase "notorious" for anything. I expect Pickford to get a good reception on Wed.

Their keeper made a horrendous error doing a Cruyff turn that cost them 2 points earlier in the season, and he looks top class. They all do it. De Gea has made several this season. He is the best we can get, although I do think we should be trying to buy a young keeper or 2, as Pickford will never be a top 4 keeper, due to his indecision on crosses.

We bought one this summer...

Mate we have been on par with average clubs for 20 odd years, look at the record against the big 4/6,we have had Moyes looking resplendant in his M&S cardie sipping pomghane and simpering away on SSN for finish, "modern fans" laugh at the idea of us as a big club, laying the blame of 20 odd years of mis-management and the belittling of this institute by so called custodians cant be put on the shoulders of a keeper dropping a bollock,we all know he made an horrendous mistake but I think your going slightly over the top here
He exemplified in one act of lunacy the state of affairs in this fixture. He deserves to be pilloried.

Dunno, I used to be a keeper when I played when I was younger (I was good when I was fat, good cushioning). And when we started playing in full size nets etc the coaches said that if the ball was dropping never leave it unless you're sure it was going over.

I'm guessing the same applies at all levels.

Same mate. Was always taught to make sure you get it over the bar though, not back in to the 6 yard box.

His error was no worse than the one Robles made a couple of years ago when he could have walked over and picked the ball up, but chose to dive and gifted Mane a last minute winner.

I hope he learned that he's not that good and that every game he has to prove himself fit to be our GK.

Something tells me that the arrogant 'kin no-mark will remain with his head firmly up his own arse though.
What a knacker saying that you think half a season Nick Pope is a better keeper lol

He tried to tip it over, but because he couldn't quite reach it, it came back into play. A bit like when you're trying to get a bag of sugar down from a high shelf and end up pouring it all over you!!

He made a mess of it no doubt , it’s a mistake and it cost us . No other way of spinning that as I see it . My post was just backing up the quote that keepers won’t let it go over if they aren’t 100% certain it’s going over , like a Batsman not leaving a delivery they probably should it’s just ingrained in them .

Well yeah hes not just going to stare at it.

Hopefully not anyway...then we would have an issue.

Those milliseconds can be crucial.

That sounded an unusual thing to say. Lots of goalkeepers would not want the ball with forwards around. He's a great pivot and I don't think you can underestimate how frustrating that us for opposing teams.

For those of you old enough to remember. He reminds me very much of Dai the drop. Capable of a great save one minute and a massive blunder the next. Dai Davies cost us the championship in 1974.

Spot on to be fair , I think that’s fairly basic isn’t it ? As a very poor defender I’d always expect the keeper not to take a chance it was going ok . They never do , do they ?

Really, taking a chance was the best thing to do. What Pickford did wrong was misjudge it.

But, like you say, it's understandable to then try and either help it on it's way, or try and take it in.

I think he's initially thought it might drop below the bar, then has realised that it won't, and he's tried to tip it over.

The result is an almighty cock up.

George Wood was my first Everton GK. I;d rather have him than Pickford, that's for sure.

And while we're at it, the comparison's with Martyn and Southall are pitiful. Never in a month of Sundays is this gormless get anywhere near their standards. He's England's GK now because that position is one where there's an acute shortage in class.

I still can't work out how it bounced as it did. It would only happen to us that.

But as I say mate I think he genuinely has tried (which is what he said as well). He second guessed himself. And in that split second got caught in between.
