2018/19 Jordan Pickford

I think a lot of the hatred from people on this thread is due to them hating the success he had with England at this summers world cup.

A lot of anti English posters targetting Jordan as he is a proud Englishman. Jealous of how great a nation we are they try to target one of our own.

The conceding of goals is not only the fault of a keeper. Depends what the defence is like. A reason Pickford shouts at the defenders is because if he sees our players failing to cut out shots and failing to mark players better he will let them know.
Then why did he give poor johnjoe a rollicking when it was he who kicked the ball out of play yesterday

His stock has fallen this season and we'd be lucky to recoup the full 30m tbh. No team above us would purchase him, and can't see him wanting to go abroad. Still has potential to improve, but I'd say he's currently just about average compared to more mid-table Premier League goalkeepers. Not as good as Wolves' Patricio, better than Bournemouth's Begovic, about as good as Leicester's Schmeichel. Don't think anybody would argue with that.

Its pretty much well recognised that 24 is quite young for a prem goalkeeper
Doesn't give him a license to make a couple of errors per game - every game.

If he's still learning the role, take him out. That's what the main focus of criticism is - he has no competition. But it's also the case that people defending him are reminded of just how poor he is.

well said Mooms! England is THE land of hope and glory, mother of the free.
Non-England people are jealous of this and taking it out on Jordan*

*the player...not the country.

Keepers make mistakes, defenders make mistakes, ours all do it in the same games. I agree he needs competition and he has deficencies in his game but he's got all the talent to be top class. He has been behind some god awful defences in his short career so to just focus on his goals conceded isn't a true barometer if taken in context.

I dunno with this lad, I think he's a good keeper like but I see where you get the arrogant shouts from.

It was right in the opposite corner, you will see that type of goal scored hundreds of times a season by decent strikers. When we had decent strikers that's what they used to do. If the keeper starts guessing and diving before the shot is hit, he's going to look stupid all the other times when the striker doesn't hit the shot well enough. That goal was Keane's fault, nobody elses (even though Walcott's header was bizarre, but all Keane had to do was kill it on his thigh, or if he didn't know what was around him, hoof it)
He didn't need to gamble, just stay large and put a foot out if it went by him. His angles were all fine btw...he'd narrowed the gap Vardy had to score to its very minimum...he just tried to get a hand on it when a foot was the best bet. That's an error.

The goal might have been the major fault of Keane/Walcott, but I expect a GK to deal with that. Keane was level with Vardy and it wasn't one on one.

He needs saving from himself if there is a top class GK in there. Handing Stekelenburg another contract did Pickford no favours...even though Im sure he must have felt it consolidated him at the time to have no realistic number two breathing down his neck should he lose form.

Reserve GK is a tough one though, anyone worth their salt wants to play, we had carlo Nash at one point, Stek is what he is a back up keeper.
