2021/22 Jordan Pickford

He has though. Just because the defence in front of him surrenders about 4 clear chances a game isn't down to him. When he plays behind a semi competent defence with England he concedes less goals.

And I'm saying you get what you pay for in many respects. Laughable in our case I know. But in the broad sense, top goalkeepers who have no clear weaknesses are just about as rare as any position in the 11. To find a goalkeeper as well rounded as Alisson for example is nearly impossible. And Liverpool paid handsomely for that privilege.
But he doesn't concede less goals because he plays better. You could put a garbage can in net and it would concede less goals for England than for Everton. It wouldn't mean that the garbage can is good at the position.

There are plenty of examples of keepers being undervalued. Half the league has keepers who are in the same tier as Pickford for less and sometimes way less.

Yeah but that's what I'm saying, the constant between England and Everton is Pickford. The things changing between them 2 things is the defence, and also the opposition. England surrender less good chances mainly because he doesn't have Keane and Holgate in front of him.

Hes a better goalkeeper than most in this league. He has 2 glaring issues in my eyes, 1 he can't help and the other is a byproduct of the 1st. He's not big enough and he can't command his area. Aside from that he's a good shot stopper, especially with reflex stops. Great with his feet and he communicates well.

I personally think people underrate Pickford because of what he was like earlier in his Everton career. Pre Anfield win and Post Anfield win are 2 completely different Pickfords in my eyes. The "erratic-ness" has been severely toned down since that game.

I just think people should be careful what they wish for, there is certainly better out there but there is also definitely much worse.

You're right the erratic nature of his game hasn't been there this year and instead he's just settled into a nice groove of being below average to average at best.

His shot stopping isn't that good, it hasn't been for a long while now and it has nothing to do with the defense in front of him. The reason it doesn't come up for England is they don't concede shots as frequently and while I agree Everton should strive for this it doesn't mean we can't look to find a better keeper in the meantime. We aren't going to play San Marino.

One fun thing about Evertonians has how they'll desperately cling to something when everything stinks. I guess Pickford is the guy now so have fun with it.
Just what the thread needed, another post from Mr obsessed. The only “fun“ you seem to derive is to constantly bombard the same thread pretending you know more about goalkeepers than everyone else who dares to have an opinion different to yours. You sir, are nauseating.
Welcome to ignore, population you and Davek.

yet can’t help yourself trying to arrogantly try and shout down anyone whose opinions differ to yours? are you a parody?
Mate I'm not shouting down anything. I've had multiple respectful discussions on Pickford in here and if you can't see that it is on you. The only one being disrespectful is you with whatever the mess you're posting right now is.

Nah I disagree, he's an above average shot stopper.

In general, he's a good keeper. Not top class but a competent midtable to Europa league level keeper and I'm happy to have him.

If you like advanced stats, and I do because I can't actually watch every match from every keeper, you can't make this case in the last few years.

My eyes do back it up though.

Yeah I must've imagined the saves he was doing for England on the weekend, or the double save against City and just look at that Palace game. The chances this defence surrenders are like penalties every time. And he still managed to pull of a ridiculous stop in that, which still lead to a goal because this defence is woeful.

Just going through the goals in the last few weeks and they've all been clear cut chances where the defence has failed him. Though he was poor against Spurs.

If we go down, he'll go to a better team. I'm thinking West Ham would go for him.
