Agree completely with that. I have no idea how anyone can argue this can be seen in a good light.I think it's a bad move.
We're a football club first, one that hasn't won a trophy for 22 years.
As much as we like to cling on to small successes/PR exercises for the club, I'm of the belief that Everton need to concentrate on the football, and leave the community stuff to EITC and the clubs directors.
We're supporters of the club, so our natural instinct is to support but whatever way we spin it, Jose Baxter is taking a contract and another's place in the U23 squad. Every minute he gets, is a minute less for Tom Davies v2. It's also a very clear irrefutable statement that there's a tolerance at Everton to drug abuse.
It's jobs for the boys.
Baxter got a contract at Oldham because Stubbs had a word.
Baxter got a move to Sheff United because Weir.
Baxter got a move back to Everton because Kenwright/Unsworth.
All the above isn't conjecture.
Everyone deserves a second chance, especially with the disclaimer of youth but there's a line and a point when you need to wake up.
Let's get it right - he's a professional footballer here. He's had every opportunity in life.
My instinct is that the lad is a wrong'un. He's spat in the faces of too many. Suspended twice in nine months at 23/24 years of age.
All that said, I trust David Unsworth. I just hope there isn't external factors/pressures involved here due to Baxter's influence in Liverpool.
How would he be taking someone else's place - is there a max squad amount in the 23's ?
Edit: can't see anything on the premier league site

Investing time/minutes to a charity case at the expense of another player doesn't seem productive
I personally don't think EITC or Bradley is what GOT is referring to really mate. Were you opposed to the £200,000 we gave to Bradley's family then ?
Niasse scoring, Baxter signing...what's going on?

I think 'charity case' is specifically aimed at Baxter who hasn't exactly covered himself in glory over the years.
Don't know about the under 23's but Jose is causing murder in GOT.

This is a football club not a drop in centre. It's a massive PR own goal.
As importantly, it brings up - as you suggest - the work of EitC, an organisation I've underlined time and again is separate but is being used by the club for positive PR purposes for the club. Well, I think on this occasion there's something toxic about the blurring of lines they seek to bring about and the club are going to get blowback from this. Hopefully the decision is stopped or reversed and then a firewall is finally placed between EitC and EFC. We are a sports organisation involved in competition. End of story. We give publicity through our name to people doing good things in the community? Fine. Thats great. Glad the club can heighten their profile so they achieve in that respect. But any more claimed significant connection is just the type of propaganda an organisation that doesn't achieve in its core activity would utilise to mask their inadequacies.
