I get the positive side of this but the negatives outweigh it for me.

Let's get talented young lads to mix with a kopite beakhead in his mid 20's. What could go wrong? "Lads av a bit of lemo wiv me, it's sound de ev will give you another go, look at me"

He's certainly a hot potato. Can someone do a poll on the merits of this decision? Be interesting to see, as there's too many pages to go through...

It would just be a poll on people's moral stand point on giving those that have lost their way another chance mate. I don't need to see other people's opinion on it to make my own. Seems people are falling out about it enough without a poll to argue over haha

Fair play to the club for giving this guy a chance.

From my experience, recovery from addiction is probably the most unlikely of all psychological symptoms. Most important is a re-integration in to a community - which is why the AA is so effective. This effort by the club may just work, although the odds are stacked and the likelihood is that the boy will let himself and everyone else down.

But as i've said earlier, I don't see this Baxter deal as complete charity. I think it may well work out well for both parties.

Tbh I wouldn't mind if it was. Club goes out of it's way to help someone who came through their youth system to possibly get back in the game? At no tangible benefit to themselves? Oh how very dare they, the devils!! :o

But, I expect this is done in conjunction with the advise and assistance of the medical and legal professions. I don't think this is done on a whim . I think it just may be a ground breaking exercise where football attempts to give something back.
Baxter may the first and given his footballing past will be of interest to the football WORLD.

It's certainly not that. One of the articles I ready on it mentioned the idea first coming up in November time I believe.

Yeah, I was just interested what the overall opinion would be, and would the club have factored people's strong opinions on the matter before they gave him a contract.

Reading through it I'd say it's more weighted to those not wanting to give him a chance. I wonder if it came out that he would be salary capped to the average working wage would people care so much. For me it isn't about money, so what he could earn vast sums of cash if it works out for him. I'm more bothered about a young fella turning his life around

Woe and/or joy is me. This is the best and/or worst thing to ever happen to Everton Football Club. Left myself some leeway just in case he does/doesn't do something stupid and/or worthwhile at the club.

I'm all for helping hands and that but has he shown any initiative to change his ways?

And I do hope he'll not be a negative influence on a good U23 side.

I can't see that last point happening mate, it's not like he's ravaged teams young players anywhere else he's been us included. He's made mistakes from what I can see on his own time with local people from the area he grew up in. I'd hope the lads in the U23s have seen enough from Holgate, Davies, Barkley etc to understand it's just not worth it and they all have he chance to live out their dream at a club very much on the up
