So he should just rot then?

Lets face it we know nothing about the situation other than what we read/hear about. I would like to think the club know what they are doing. We dont often get things like this wrong.
Nope, he should earn a contract somewhere on merit. And if he can't then he needs to retrain and do another job just like the rest of us.

Thats irrelevent though as the club obviously see something in him and want to help him out.

Its really got nothing to do with anyone else. I am inclined to think the same way as you but its none of my business really. If he is getting another chance then good luck to him.

Comments like this are mad to me.

I don't begrudge him his chance, maybe he can show he's changed. Maybe he'll pass on his knowledge of how not to do things to the kids.

But why do we owe him something? I'm skint at the moment, should the club let me just rot? What about everyone currently on the dole? We giving all them contracts too?

Don't think it's got anything to do with seeing anything in him.

Purely has to be down to Unsworth and Royal knowing him from a young age when he was out on loan at Oldham and at Sheff United and he's asked a favour so he can find a new club. Club have agreed to it.

But listen to any Sheff United fan...Good footballer. Bad egg.

Wow. Genuinely shocked at the negativity here. It's not like the kid murdered someone.

In what way?

I don't dislike him for taking drugs, half the people I know do so, and I don't even have a problem with what the club are doing really. But the lid has messed up chance after chance. I can see why people are wondering if he deserves another one.

If he was being put on first team wages, then yes. I'm with you. He's being put on a schoolboy contract basically. Why is it our business? It's not our money. We don't have to work with him every day.

I agree. But there's a few reasons people are concerned and I don't blame them. We're a huge football club who should be winning things, not a charity.

I like this. It's like Bayern Munich. They always do stuff like this. Looking after their own. When Gerd Muller was near the end with alcoholism they offered him a coaching role and there are other examples. I'm glad were this type of club.

Let's not kid ourselves and look at it from a hard nosed perspective also, I'm sure the fee we would get from him if he gets back on the straight and narrow would make it worth our while

£5k a week. That's some 15th chance. A quarter of a million quid. For perspective, the average Briton earns that in 10 years.

He's signed a 12 month deal we won't be getting a penny back on this.
