Look, I'm not opposed to taking a flyer on the guy on the cheap, but he's 28 and has made 73 PL appearances in his life. Comparing him to Gareth Barry is a slap in the face. Barry had more PL appearances before his 20th birthday.

City have moved on from Barry’s time.

Dont think anyone is dissing Barry, but you have to be a very good player to not get a game for City in the first place. The comparisons really are just because you are or becoming a spare for City, doesn’t mean you can’t be a success elsewhere. Think even James Milner is still playing.

They are arbitrary comparisons really, you can say Barry never played in the final of top international final etc, but Barry did this and that.

You could say this but it would be pointless really, Eder and Ciro Immobile played in a top international final and Wayne Rooney didn’t.

Phillips has been a spare for city before the ink dried on his contract. I think he’s started 4? PL games for them

It was just about how Denzel Dumfries was meant to be signing for us one summer, we put all our eggs in one basket and waited for him to sign for Internationale, then ended up with JJK again.
I think we finally learnt our lesson this summer in some ways by getting people in early for pre-season training.

...oh and we won the cup in 84 that kick started a good spell for this club.
 
Matters Nunez is another, couple of seasons ago everyone on here wanted to sign him, if he does another year at City hel have essentially the same profile as Phillips.

A lot of evidence that lads who don’t play for City or Barca aren’t favoured by Pep are still good players.
