Kevin Mirallas admits he is playing through the pain of an ongoing ankle injury at Everton FC.

But the Belgian believes he will be back to full fitness in the next 10 days. Mirallas suffered damage to his ankle ligaments in a challenge from Queens Park Rangers’ Jordon Mutch on 15 December, and has been hampered by the problem ever since. He has seen his training regime disrupted, and has managed to play 90 minutes just once in the last six games.

But the 27-year-old turned in an excellent display as a substitute in the Blues’ FA Cup defeat to West Ham United on Tuesday, scoring one goal and making another for Romelu Lukaku, and is expected to return to Roberto Martinez’s starting line-up for the Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park on Monday.“The reason I didn’t start the last two games was because I have pain in my ankle,” Mirallas told the ECHO. “It’s difficult, because some days it is good, and some days it is not so good.

“Before the West Ham game I spoke with the manager, and he told me that when I came off the bench I had to make the difference. That gave me confidence and made me feel good. “Even though we were playing 10 versus 11 in that game, it was no problem. After the red card, the team played very well and scored two goals. Those last five minutes were difficult for me though!”

Mirallas revealed he had seen a specialist from the Belgian national team in a bid to overcome his issue, which is caused by a fraying of the ligaments in his left ankle. He does, however, expects the problem to sort itself in the next week or so. “Some days I train normally, some days I can’t,” he said. “The last two weeks, it has been difficult. “After the Stoke City game (on Boxing Day), I was in a lot of pain and couldn’t start against Newcastle. I did 30 minutes in that game but I still felt bad. And after the first game against West Ham, I felt bad, not fit.

“I have seen a specialist from Belgium over it. He came two days before the last game, and you can see I felt better after that! He worked his magic!“I think in 10 days I will feel 100%. But for now, it is 90%. The main thing is that I am able to play.”

I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign an improved deal with a couple of exit clauses in it.

Most of the team will accept their own part in the train wreck of a season and (hopefully) will want to show what they can do for the rest of the season.

His contract situation has been handled very badly. You simply cannot allow a player of his quality to enter the final 18-12 months of a contract.
Should have been resolved in the summer. We are hardly financially flush in the first place without seeing a very good international leave for a nominal fee. I would imagine our manager took the 'arrogance' outlook that we would be easily challenging for honours and the top 4. What a mess this season is :(

That's some imagination you possess my friend.

You cant just force a player to sign. He will either play out his remaining contract, sign a new contract or be sold for decent money. There is no way he is leaving for a nominal fee as he is too hard to replace, might as well keep him for as long as we can unless we get near he is worth.

Clearly angling for a big pay rise which we should be giving him. Baines got a 75 grand a week contract, as did Fellaini before him. Mirallas will be looking at them and thinking I'm as good as them. He's good enough for an awful lot of big clubs, some of them regularly in the Champions League so if he walks away due to money we can't have any complaints, as much as it pains me to say that. Maybe this is why Eto'o is being sold - to free up wages for Mirallas. I wouldn't be surprised to see him made the highest paid player at the club which would be be around 80 grand a week. Hope it happens because he's 15/20m player on his day and there's not too many of those in the current team

We can only get what someone is willing to pay, irrelevant of how good he is. He can sign a pre contract agreement with a team abroad with 6 months left and we lose him for nothing.

or the player has the upper hand and refused to negogiate..... which at that point did you expect RM to sell last summer and break up the harmony and momentum gathered last year???... would not exactly have been the best scenario

If life was so simple and we all new the facts .... life would be lovely

Its all about weighing up pros and cons- Id rather have him for the remaining 12 months of his contract than sell him for a nominal fee. He might always change his mind if we have a good season

Baines, (potentially) Stones, Coleman, McCarthy, Barkley, (potentially) Besic, Lukaku.

Form is temporary class is permanent?
