The DoF of the day must be involved to some extent. I think if whomever it is had a demonstrably better track record with the success of "their" signings, their power base and influence would grow and Moshiri would have been more likely to defer to their judgement in future.

Brands was not publicity shy at all initially, mostly about himself and his "achievements". He was adept at self-promotion and seemed to be treating Everton as a springboard, giving snippets of information about how he negotiated with Barcelona and Juventus. Perhaps if he had focused more the signings would have been better and he could have established himself as a figure of trust and competency in Moshiri's eyes.

Totally agree, and I don't blame him at all. But Brands carrying on that he was fighting for Carlo to stay and the only reason he left was a lack of support from Moshiri is beyond laughable.

In his defence. If he was told by the club the next 18months there's minimal funds available and he can't spend more than say 20 million, you can't really expect him to produce miracles.

Perhaps Brands can flourish when the shackles are off after all? Not defending him here, just saying he can be adept at his job.

If his hands were tied why did he sign the contract extension?
