Not really sure on that. Why should we not hold the club to the same standards that any other established top flight side would be held?

This wouldn't happen at any other comparable club. To go into the opening game with no replacement is poor. To go into game 3 is very poor. To go almost 8 weeks is almost hard to believe.

As someone said Chelsea haven't really got a recognised striker in yet, so that statement is a little bit off.

The way I see it is I'd rather they get the right person in than commit us to the wrong one. We also have to recognise that we only play 1 up front and will continue to do so, anyone we bring in probably has to be aware of that so it's not like picking up your groceries at the supermarket. They have to be right for us, we have to be right for them or we are just in Kean hell again. If there is a chance of getting who they want then they are right to wait, if they are scratching their arses not knowing what we're going to do next then that's a serious problem.

I think it will be the former rather than the latter.

Seems like I'm in the minority but I've been impressed with Thelwell. Sweeping changes across the club and academy and decent amount of business done so far. Yes, we need a striker but it is not as simple as Thelwell just rocking up and getting club to give us a striker. We need the one we want, they need to want to come here and they need to be available.

I'd rather wait then end up with another Tosun

Imagine the fume if we'd brought a striker or two but no midfield or defensive reinforcements? Davies and Gomes as our starting duo on front of Keane and Holgate by game three due to injuries. The problem with the transfer window (particularly this format of the season starting before it closes), it just creates a load of heat and hullabaloo.

The midfield and defensive were a much bigger mess than our striking options. It was 100% the correct to prioritise them

I find it baffling fans think he could have fixed the squad in not only 1 summer window but in half a summer window prior to the Chelsea game despite only just managing to avoid breaking FFP last season.

The expectations on this fella are unrealistic and unfair.

Meanwhile the same fans are giving the manager a free pass because they like how he fist pumps and breaks bones celebrating goals you couldn't make it up lol

I think both need time to be honest. But yeah massively unrealistic expectation on Thelwell.

Bit simplistic to quote and emphasise the difficult criteria for Thelwell, especially in sourcing us a new striker. Those criteria form his raison d'etre for being at the club, surely. We simply can't afford to be on the back foot any further regards points without a goalscorer.
Apart from anything else, it's a disgrace.

…it was high risk having DCL as our only effective striker, especially with his injury record. This isn’t hindsight, this was highlighted on here ahead of DCLs absence.

Simms undoubtedly a better option than Rondon yet allowed to go on loan. Rondon not selected when available at Villa says it all.

THIS PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB DO NOT HAVE A STRIKER.

I think it’s reasonable to say that the DoF has to be held to account, he’s culpable.

Thelwell will have discussed with Lampard who is striking options are and in order. Lampard will have said that Simms wasn't ready and 4/5th choice. Hence he is loaned out for development. You can't just keep him around in case of an injury crisis as it isn't right for his career development.

Also Simms is not better then Rondon, sorry.

He is doing a very good job, no rash moves, working with the manager, everything being calculated, the Everton that had a plan is coming back

You can argue we as fans need to wait till the end of the window and see what happens but we do have a right to be concerned imo. Thelwell has never rebuilt any team before and Lampard is a rookie manager so we essentially have 2 people learning on the job. I can understand why some are sceptical especially when you see that there is still clear involvement in transfers at boardroom level.

Chelsea have goalscorers though. They signed Sterling like.

They are of course they are. But do you want him to just buy any available striker?
