People talk about loaning Coady so we have to go with a 3 man backline; but we bought Tarkowski and he's only know a four at the back system. That's HIS strength.

Why are we allowing the tail to wag the dog here?
Is coady actually bad in a back four? I can’t figure out for the life of me why he couldn’t work in a back four.

….I imagine they want to play 3 CBs as a preferred formation. i don’t think they are playing this way because they purchased Coady.

I’d always go with a back 4 but this is not the way Lampard wants to set up. I accept that.

I’d prefer to look at other area that could improve us & feel we’d currently be better with 3 in central midfield & WBs who are more adventurous.
Lampard was fine with a four at the back until this no mark Thelwell showed up.

Three CB's is a system used by a minority of PL teams. And it's alien to us and these players.

They are struggling badly with it - as much as they're suffering with a lack of a decent striker.

It'll get ditched eventually. I think we all know that. The sooner the better.

I think it's a little telling they've pushed the "he can play in a back 4" in every interview to us, but we will not use it so far with him.

Well he's exactly the sort of signing you'd expect from a team wanting to mainly play 343.

I'm not a big fan of it, but I'm not a fan of this side in any formation. The back 4 against Minnesota was a complete mess.

We still need to be flexible though. Like there is absolutely no reason to play a back 3 tomorrow against Fleetwood

Struggling with it? We have conceded 4 goals in 3 games, 1 of them was a penalty and 1 a rebound from a save.

Oh it's happening.

…i’d be surprised if Lampard is being told to implement a system he’s not content with. Saying that, this is Everton.

If we are playing with 3CBs, we need to get the rest of the formation right.

My thoughts exactly but I was watching him Saturday And he was always slightly further back than holgate and Tarkowski on 3 occasions I seen Tarkowski telling him to step up so maybe in a four he stays too deep and plays people onside and hasn’t got the pace to recover, that’s the only thing I can think would be the so called reason but I don’t believe a premier league defender playing football for the best part of 20 years can’t play in a 4 or 5.

I'd like to find out. And any PL CH who cant stretch to working in two systems needs punting anyway.

He says he can do it when questioned about it. Feel it’s odd the way he was even questioned about it by by the club on his media day when joining. Sort of puts pressure on him if he ever does.

I’d be very surprised if he was any worse playing a back four than Keane, Holgate or branthwaite.
