Hope someone cleverer than me can explain why we need a director of football, a head of recruitment, a scouting manager, and are looking for a head of emerging talent?

Are we just making jobs up to make it seem like things have changed?

In think my issue here is about joined up thinking. I mean as a DOF surely you cant buy players who dont fit into the coach / managers style of play? So if Lampard plays one style and the DOF is buying players that dont fit that style how does that work - its surely a failure.
If the players perform and play better for Dyche (which i think they will) then its still a failure for the DOF as they were not bought to play with a Dyche style (what ever that turns out to be long term).
I mean the DOF should have a style of play he is aiming for then managers and players are brought in to suit it. The direction for the club on the pitch should be set by the DOF or what is the point of a DOF. In Evertons case it is the tail wagging the dog and firefighting thats been going on for years.
I'd agree with all of that if the DOF had autonomy about who the coach is. We will never, ever be successful until we settle on a way of playing and recruit for that style. When that bigger decision is taken above his head, he's left having to rip everything up and start again.

You won't understand it until the structure is explained to you, and it never will be.

It's frustrating, but there aren't many clubs where the fans have it explained to them exactly who does what in the structure of each dept

Because the Director of Football is too busy with recruiting and scouting players and needs to improve on his recent identifying of a shortlist of 2 chalk and cheese managers?

Brighton have 100's of people involved in recruitment. Running a football club coherently involves a lot of managing.

….Thelwell calls himself a ‘Line Manager’, presume all of those report to him. He’s probably not identifying players himself, he just gets others to do it.

Whats more scary is that none of this existed.

I expect that even a lot of the clubs in the Championship and lower, have a structure that works fornmodern football and we've got Owner and Board winging it and sticking their oars in.
No wonder we're so difficult to do business with on every front.
