The same way we were paying him 200k last summer according to this forum?

Then we were going to over pay for Morgan Gibbs White apparently

Then it was Kev doesn’t have a scouting network outside of Burnley and Wolves

Of course our recruitment can improve but Evertonians don’t half love jumping on whatever the biggest disaster they can think of is.

Funny how most on here thought we were too good for Longstaff and Almiron back when we were linked with them though.

Could be worse, people could have kept backing Benitez.

Everton's recruitment has been consistently diabolical over many years. Its not negative to state the truth.

There isn't a team in the league with worse attacking options. That is unacceptable for an established top flight team of 60 plus years who have raised over 100m in sales over the last year.

It’s fine to point out facts, I doubt anyone will argue with either of those points.

What is tiring is people making up the most negative hypothetical scenario possible and then going on like it’s definitely going to happen.

We didn’t buy Lingard and give him 200k last summer despite loads on here comparing about it

We didn’t buy the whole host of nightmare names that were being banded around on here in January

There’s more than enough negativity at Everton and actual real things we are doing badly without people needing to make up horrible stuff we haven’t actually done yet.

Hope someone cleverer than me can explain why we need a director of football, a head of recruitment, a scouting manager, and are looking for a head of emerging talent?

Are we just making jobs up to make it seem like things have changed?

A diversification of positions and hopefully a diversification of blame...I think honestly though it's really us catching up to the way proper club's run recruitment these days. It's Kev with his MBA coming in and "professionalizing" the recruitment set up and creating new areas of responsibility. In the days of Moyes he had his team of scouts and decided everything himself before getting Bill's sign-off. This is the opposite end of the spectrum where there's specialized positions for every function.

Whether this actually changes anything or just creates the appearance of change will only tell in the long run if we actually perform better.

We did buy crap players and are in the relegation zone as a result.

That’s different than going around saying we’re going to do something and getting bent out of shape about it.

I‘ve criticised most of the back room teams at Everton probably more than anyone on here, but you can only criticise them for the bad players they actually buy, not the ones that they don’t.

Now do it for the players we did sign last window to improve the team. ;)

Although I do t think as a club we’ve recruited well at all, I do actually think that some improvements were made in the summer window.

Coady and Tarkowski are better than Keane and Holgate in my opinion.

Onana Gueye and Garner are better than any combination of midfielders we were putting out last season.

McNeill and Maupay have not been upgrades on Richarlison and Gordon that is for certain.

Look I’m not on here arguing that Thelwell has recruited well. Just that there’s more than enough in reality to criticise than creating horrendous fantasy windows where we put Lingard on 120k a week long term deal.

Let’s face it on deadline day we were all demanding a name, any name… no matter how terrible

Also, although I’m loathe to give anyone at Everton much credit for anything, if we’re looking for some green shoots of improvement, I actually think our injury position hasn’t been too bad since the first day blow out where we lost Calvert Lewin Mina Godfrey and Holgate.

Pickford Coady Tarkowski Mykolenko Onana Gueye Iwobi Gray have been available most of the season. We’ve had the usual sick notes like Patterson, Calvert Lewin, and Mina absent but apart from Garner there hasn’t really been the annoying injuries to multiple different players with a new one dropping every week which we were seeing under Ancelotti Benitez and Lampard

Hopefully we might finally be seeing some improvement in this area which would be one of the best things we could improve on

If you ignore all our injuries then it has looked better this season yeah

Just thankful kev didn't rush in and panic buy a striker in Jan in case our only striker, who's been available for about 6 games in 2 seasons, got hurt again
Agree but according to reports he was the one who worked for weeks on Danjuma only for him to snub us at the last minute and apparently he wasn't given a budget on transfers or wages to secure anyone of quality. Until we are scrambling on deadline day. So it's probably on the board and owner if (as much) if not more than this fella. Brands also had his wings clipped.

I'm presuming we are very much out of the mire with regard to ffp in the next window seeing as we've sold a lot more than we've bought this year, so maybe we'll be able to judge Thelwell better in the summer, provided we survive
