Lee Sargeson joins from Brighton as scouting manager

interesting

wonder if he is the guy responsible for all their great transfers recently
Even if he isn't personally responsible for identifying them all he'll bring with him knowledge of the system and method they are using to identify all these bargain talents. It's a very shrewd appointment.

Thelwell must have finally got sick of Bill Jung-un and his “prem experience” scouting network and decided to bring his own men in.

Hopefully another nail in the coffin of Bills time at Everton.

Just need to take the negotiating phone of him now Kev….stop him “bidding hard”, I mean hardly bidding.

Imagine thinking he’s gonna have any power to stop Mosh Man and K-Thez bringing in Lingard on a £120k a week four year contract in the summer.

Yeah, there really is no place for Bill in the sort of modern, professional setup Thelwell is putting in place. Even if Moshiri doesn't see that you can bet when new investors come in they will.

Whats more scary is that none of this existed.

I expect that even a lot of the clubs in the Championship and lower, have a structure that works fornmodern football and we've got Owner and Board winging it and sticking their oars in.
No wonder we're so difficult to do business with on every front.
Truly, I would expect any decent sized club would already have an extensive scouting network, and not let their board members scout players on youtube. In every sport I know of there is an extensive scouting network that reports to the directors. While they are the ones that make decisions, there are way too many players out there for just 2-3 people to sort through, having reliable scouts to bring players to their attention(or eliminate them from possibility) is essential.

If you employ 20 professionals at an average of 150,000 per year, thats 3 million. We lose waaaaaay more than that every year on woeful purchases.

The same way we were paying him 200k last summer according to this forum?

Then we were going to over pay for Morgan Gibbs White apparently

Then it was Kev doesn’t have a scouting network outside of Burnley and Wolves

Of course our recruitment can improve but Evertonians don’t half love jumping on whatever the biggest disaster they can think of is.

Funny how most on here thought we were too good for Longstaff and Almiron back when we were linked with them though.

Richarlison £50mil rising to £60mil
Gordon £40mil rising to £45mil
Kean £25-28mil

Theres some chunk on this years FFP.

Get rid of the deadwood in the summer and as i said when the window closed, this could end up a very good window for us...if we stay up.

Some of our fans just love to moan about anything and everything they must live a miserable existence.

Good apointment imo - Big Kev doing bits.

It’s almost like the people that moan are always right and we’re getting worse every single year.

Pity one of the 'bits' wasn't bringing in the centre forward that everyone knows has been glaringly the most pressing need during the two windows he has had here. Oh no, Kev's answer to being a long ball outfit with only one player capable of playing as a target man who is constantly struggling with injuries., Is to bring in Neil Maupay, who is about 5'7" and seems incapable of jumping. 'Big Kev' as you so amusingly call him, needs to sort out which bits are the important bits.

….it’s some gamble, though.
It's a gamble either way though, if we'd spent 50m in January, and in the process added 10m+ to the annual wage bill and STILL gone down we've made the financial hole so much worse. I'm disappointed we didn't make better use of loans but the calibre of players that were available to buy there's no guarantee they'd have made a substantial difference in the short term, while greatly increasing the financial pressure for the long term.

No argument from me der - we needed a CF in. Should have been all owa Chris Wood on a loan deal.

Unfortunately the manager uncertainty didnt help.

Everton's recruitment has been consistently diabolical over many years. Its not negative to state the truth.

There isn't a team in the league with worse attacking options. That is unacceptable for an established top flight team of 60 plus years who have raised over 100m in sales over the last year.
