Until the decks are cleared of the rot that is the EFC ownership and BoD, I’m not hanging thelwell out to dry - i don’t think anything has changed since brands was here, and the DoF role at EFC is unworkable currently due to the interference.

The maupay signing is the biggest issue I have with thelwell - if we were never going to play him as part of a front two he was doomed to fail.

The longer the pantomime goes on with kenwright and this takeover, the worse shape we will be in as i very much doubt any transfers in will be signed off (maybe even transfers out won’t be approved?!) - msp might even want a new DoF of their own, so will boot Kev out - why let him make any signings?

The uncertainty is crippling us - another thing to thank big blue bill for.

Thing is with Maupay, he didn't really play in a front two at Brighton much. I suspect Lampard had said he was trying to evolve the playing style from needing a big man up top, to playing through the lines more and he wanted a player with good movement etc in the final third. As it turns out, Lampard didn't evolve the playing style to much other than passing around the back 4 and trying to play through midfield but losing the ball before it got anywhere near the front men.

Maupay was a dreadful signing, but I highly doubt he was signed in isolation as simply an alternative to DCL

I don't know if it was down to Thelwell but whoever decided that we should sign Maupay should no longer have a job at the club.
Surely though he must have had some input in the discussions. I would like to think it was down to Lampard as ultimately the manager should have the last word on transfers and if it was Lampards choice well we all know now that Frank isnt very good at this management lark
It worries me more that whoever picked him out could still be at the club.
None of this is Maupays fault and I wish him well for the future hopefully at another club.

The maupay signing underlines where we are.
We are buying in a market where there is no value. We needed a striker… we had little money to spend, little to offer player to lure free transfers and first options… we are eventually left with with worst options available… players that have already failed and hoping that history doesn’t repeat.
the reject bin is no place to shop for us.

Incredible to me that this divvy remains in his post.

We needed a bonfire of the inadequates this summer.

A head coach + Dyche is all we need rather than a failed DoF.
I could live with your suggestion, but I’m not blaming thelwell solely for the disasters, the same as I didn’t blame brands - I think that blame belongs higher up the EFC directorial food chain.

Maybe MSP will bring a hefty broom to clean house?

Regardless of who brought them in Walsh, Brands and Thelwell are all weak men.

To be a DoF you have to be in charge.

Totally agree, but it’s easy enough to just pick up a big wage and let your boss interfere with everything and just say nothing mate - happens in every walk of life, and in all professions and workplaces.

They were hired under false pretences - classic case of too many cooks.

We keep getting directors of footballers that have done well at places and then fail here.
Hardly a sign it’s the DOF fault

Steve Walsh wasn’t a DoF and Kevin Thelwell did not handle transfers at Wolves, nor did make an substantial improvements to their academy and the production of players through the youth team

DoF's are supposed to be in control. If they dont have it then they are not DoF's. So anyone taking up a role like that here are frauds and you know what they are before they begin.

If there is a change of ownership, then its a good time to nail down the DOF role.
I've read MSP were impressed with Thelwell so perhaps an indication he'll be staying.

Either way, its the scouting system that desperately needs to bear fruit.
We can't be spending £35m on the Onanas of this world, we need to identify them earlier.

It’s riskier business earlier. Going to kiss more frogs.
For every branthwaite and stones, there’s a Onyekuru, Holgate, vlasic.
Im not sure we have infrastructure or processes to turn these projects into world stars. We did nothing with deulafeu, lookman, or vlasic. We could even suggest Barkley failed to develop.
