And despite this indisputable fact some on here would have you believe that Thelwell did a good job last year. Boggles the mind.

It doesn't tell the whole story does it though, i mean our downward decent hasn't been a season in the making, its been progressive and the costs being tackled and brought down that place significant limits on us his predecessors didn't really have, weren't of his making.

Personally i think the criticism thus far is overlay harsh and he needs more time, purely because hes operating in the skip fire the club is but he wasnt the one holding the matches.

The one thing on his charge sheet is the Maupay deal for me, he got the balance and priority wrong. There is a profile of player there - McNeill, Garner, Onana you can see logic behind - they are better value deals then say - Mina, Gomes, Gbamin or the Rondons of this world. Even Maupay i expect we'd get a fee from someone.

Very much signs of green shoots on cost controls and we are beginning to bring revenue into the club through sales - also something other DOF's struggled with beyond high profile low hanging fruit sales.

The club needs a process of recovery not an event, even consistency, the bones of a plan and acting within a budget with a clear goal is an improvement on what went before and an even keel, lets see how the summer goes.

Im prepared to patient.

Ive kinda given up trying to blame the DOF at our club, he is basically not a DOF he is a glorified assistant.

DOF models don't produce fruits for years, I get that - so its hard to judge on pure DOF stuff in 18 months.

However the fact we still haven't pushed on and signed anyone after losing quite a few squad players and not improved the starting lineup after being that close to relegation, if he isn't able to do his job he should quit.

Oh right, yeah the face he makes a pretty penny a year probably means he won't quit.

Why would you ever quit as DOF at Everton? You get paid to do absolutely nothing and get given a title that makes people think you do stuff. When you get questioned as to why you’ve done nothing you can just say “well I’m just a line manager”, whatever that’s supposed to mean. It’s quite literally free money, you don’t have to lift a finger.

Alright Kev? League is starting in five weeks and we've got a squad that wouldn't look out of place in League Two.

Any work would be appreciated, unless you actually left your role last summer and it just hasn't been announced?

We wouldn't know the difference as, on the face of it, it doesn't appear that you've done anything at all in over 12 months.

If we are too patient then we run the risk of relegation, we were a gnats hair away from it last season, which will be an existential threat to the club in general.

I agree that some of the hyperbole around Thelwell, to which I have contributed admittedly, is often over the top but this is the internet so I'm pretty sure it's not 100% real and is magnified by the culture we have on public forums. However, even the good stuff is just OK. McNeill was hot garbage until Dyche took over, Garner is held up as something after only a handful of games and even Onana has flattered to deceive as often as he has actually delivered. As I have said before, the problem in this squad is goals, I assume Thelwell has seen that too (unless he is as bad as some would have us believe) and has failed to do anything positive about it in two windows, we can't afford a third. I don't see our midfield chipping in with enough goals to counteract another season with malfunctioning forwards. If it isn't resolved this window then I am struggling to find too many scenarios where we stay up and that will be on him, hands tied or no.
