Marcel Brands is by far higher quality DoF than Thelwell and Walsh.

Brands buy as Everton DoF were far superior to the tripe Walsh bought and what Thelwell is buying.

Look at that PSV team he has assembled for peanuts... Moshiri, Kenwright and Joorabchian made his life hell and forced him out.

Anyone who agreed to pay £25m for Ben Godfrey should have their credentials to be a DOF questioned.

Those have been the areas that Thelwell has had quiet success in , rebuilding systems behind the first team. It will take time for these things to show though, meanwhile the lack of money is severely hampering any transfer plans. Thelwell for me is a good administrator/ builder behind the scene. It worries me that in his current situation without an effective owner/ CEO/ Chairman behind him he doesn‘t have the nous to scrape the barrel and get good players in dirt cheap , but then again how could any DoF work well in our current situation.

I suspect this is why BK and FM hired him. Someone who will administrate behind the scenes while they still get final say on transfers

They all got away with it by the skin of their teeth last season. We have no idea about stuff behind the scenes coming to fruition yet but thats not to say he shouldnt have time to prove it. Anyone should be given that time. However, to start a season at this level without a single striker to take the field is absolutely inexcusable at this level. I was quite surprised how that went a bit more under the radar than it should have. You wouldnt even expect that at non league level. To then go the entire season and in no way address it is simply not good enough. Make no mistake we were 45 minutes away from the Championship because of lack of action on this.
Two weeks from the start of a new season and we're still praying on calvert lewin not getting injured.
Absolute urgent priorities NOT getting done in the last 14 months.

Moshiri forced Benitez on us so he de facto forced Brands out.

Don’t forget there were fans of ours that actually advocated giving Benitez full control of the club to rip it all up to the foundations. It was a “dose of salts” we all had to take apparently.

….I could understand the logic, we were dreadfully short of pace at the back. It was a massive void. I was delighted when he signed but there are no excuses, he’s been a disappointment. Saying that, his early form saw him get a full international cap.

I’m sure if you go through what we think are Brands signings, there’ll be a number of poor ones (Klaassen? etc) but what I think is lost on many is his diplomacy skills in keeping the madhouse together. Until Benitez came, he worked WITH managers, he was liked by both factions on the Board, he was very popular with players and FF staff.

Godfrey still defends the same way as he did at Norwich, i think they let in 79 goals the year they got relegated. So im not exactly sure where the £25m came from. He was £5m tops on potential that he was quick. Giving them £25m was nuts.

Especially as nobody else was seemingly in for him.

He has been slightly unlucky in not being able to get a proper run in the side due to injuries etc but he is another 20m+ player who we barely even miss when he is not available. We have done that far too often in the past few years.

See people defending him on twitter saying bringing the right players to the board and them not getting it over the line. Is no excuse if we dont bring the quality in this summer he can get out of this club not accepting any dof who has not got us a cf again or even solved any problems we have even with ffp problems
