2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

I was in the he's done a decent job under the circumstances, but you can't argue with anything you've said and overall it's been poor.

Would have been interesting to see who he would have brought in if he had the money; Kudus, Gnonto and Minteh all players that would have brought pace and more in attack, but he didn't and he could have done better with what little has been spent.

I think it would be very hard working with Dyche though, he's very opinionated and there would be no point signing players if Dyche didn't play them. I think Dyche would have had a big say on who comes in.

Big question is should he have a chance with funds when the Friedkin Group come in? DOF not solely about transfers coming in and it's not only his decision, he's helped keep the club going under tough circumstances and as you say the academy seems to be making progress. If he does stay we need a big overhaul of recruitment as it definitely not been good enough.
Can you imagine Dyche being given Minteh to use this season?

He'd only just be starting games now as he got himself up to Premier League fit.

If I were in charge I'd be replacing everyone involved in the football operations

New manager
New coaching staff
New DOF
New recruitment team

We need a complete overhaul of the club. Not just a new manager, albeit that's the most urgent matter right now.

He was on the radio the other day talking about his role and its very admin based and has little to do with the recruitment side of things incase that is what people are getting their hopes up about.
I think its probably the easiest job in football being there DOF.

The owners do alot of the work themselves with the background they have in the world of Poker etc. Its all about calculating risk and looking were other people aren't.
That's when the scouts and stats guys do there bit, Weir basically just opens the mail and makes the brews.

Look at Ashworth, apart from Isak & Gordon who he spent £110m bills on, his record has been very hit and miss.

Mate you’ve just pointed to the women’s team as an example of his influence, because they beat the RS

Yet failing to understand that that was their first win of the season in 8 attempts

See, you've had good times?

As soon as the new owners come in they should be down to Brighton and offer Dave Wier whatever it takes

Why in the name of Zeus would we do that?

When it comes to spending (i guess) below £10mil per player...not sure why people can slate him.

Tht year we commited to spending £30m on Beto, the following transfers happened

Morgan Rogers to villa £9m
Jaden Philogene to Hull £5m
Justin kluivert to Bournemouth £12m
Raul Jiminez to Fulham £6m
Chris Wood Forest £17m
Hudson Odoi to Forest £3,5m

If we were that strapped for cash we could of just gone to Stoke or someone and paid a million for Tyrese Campbell or a player like that.

He could of done a lot better than Beto

Ffs I give up. You’re either as thick as two short planks or you didn’t read a single word of my post that you quoted.

;)

Remember this... under Steve Walsh.

Some great development that was.

Thats two good times :p

If the manager is crap which he is and the squad is crap which it is and the current ownership is crap which is the understatement of this entire reality then the DoF is also in all likelihood…crap

Bloom owns also owns a sports data company called Starlizard, they also have an offshoot that is just focused on player recruitment called Jamestown Analytics.

Funny you mention Ashworth, England kicked on after he left, Brighton kicked on after he left, Newcastle spent loads without sales leaving them with PSR issues, the bloke is a myth imo.

Well I don't see why he would be the exception to the rule - and I see no evidence that he's worth holding on to. Maybe that's unfair. But then again, everybody currently at Everton is likely to be collateral damage in this new takeover simply because they wouldn't be at Everton if the club had actually been run successfully.

I think without DCL & with Minteh we'd be closer to midtable.

I think many assume a DOF is solely working on transfers -- we dont know the behind the scenes.

He can't get into the Brighton team atm so it might be worth a revisit

Think with him being 20 theyre looking more at the next few seasons, especially for the fee.

Seeing Lindstrom cut inside and thinking about Minteh's pace...so many opportunities missed due to the cash not being there :(
