2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

My opinion of Thelwell is that he has signed some decent players given the circumstances

However his recruitment of attacking players and goal scorers has been extremely poor and that was the biggest priority position during his time here.

So overall, I dont think he has done a terrible job. But I don't think he has done well enough to earn another contract either.

That's a pretty fair analysis, I think.

Whatever his strengths and weaknesses, it comes down to how you would answer one key question: If the DoF job was advertised by Everton on January 1, would Kevin Thelwell be the best candidate?

I genuinely cannot see why he would be. What a coincidence it would truly be if the best DoF on the market was already at Everton.

I mean no but he played a part in every single game when fit.
Featured in 8 started 5 of them, I'm not saying he didn't tbh and am aware of the injury but if you watch him he is all pace and not much else. I'm a bit 50/50 on him in the same way I am about Gnonto tbh. Still plenty of the season left to see what he does and he has age on his side.

Who is making a massive profit more than a couple of million to what we bought them for?

Our 2 most sellable assets were here before he got here

Mixed feelings on his job tbh, the academy seems to have benefited loads this season, hard to judge any attacking players in the current setup, but failure to address either full back position is worrying.

It's a mixed bag, but it shouldn't be surprising that he's struggled in the attacking area given those are generally the most expensive players and we have no cash.

Onana was a good profit.

I think Iroegbunam could turn out to be a good player.

Chermiti who knows far too early

Players like Garner Tarkowski Ndiaye and McNeil have stabilised us on low wages.

Beto and Maupay big disappointments.

He’s done well to shift Iwobi Godfrey for some decent fees.

Not been a brilliant job, not been a terrible job in my view. Had some pretty rubbish conditions to operate in.

I’d steer clear of Ashworth, a lot of drama surrounding him at the moment. I can’t help feel like Thelwell deserves to stay. There’s so many well documented sagas that show he targeted the right players but our manager/owners stopped them happening. We nearly had Kudus if not not United scuppering us. I know Mudryk has been dreadful for Chelsea, but we had a bid turned down at a fraction of the price, a window before the Arsenal/Chelsea soap opera began - it shows some interesting scouting. There’s been some disappointing sales in terms of youth products, but that seemed to be more of the financial pressures than personal decisions. He engineered a clever swap deal for Minteh to solve the DCL contract scenario but again, that stalled out of his control. There’s been some bad ones, Beto was never worth the money and the full backs remain neglected…but I think he’s done enough (successful and unsuccessfully) to show that he knows what he’s doing if allowed to do so.
