2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

My mates a Newcastle fan and doesn't rate him highly and he didn't exactly have a great window for United either.
Thelwell has identified decent targets in the past, Diaz, Kudus, Minteh to name a few, he's just never had the funds to get them over the line. I'd rather see what he can do when he's not got both hands tied behind his back.

When he's had funds he's just pissed most of it up the wall. Some people giving him a lot of unearned leeway for some reason. The squad is atrocious.

In terms of Ashworth he is not a recruitment guy by the sounds of things, more club structure stuff, Howe seemingly had his own people doing the players up there and Jason Wilcox is in charge of it at Man Utd. As for Thelwell I'm still not sure what the point was identifying players he couldn't ever afford, he has wasted so much time the last few years chasing various players, its his job to know what he is working with and have a plan for all scenario's whether you have a budget of £100m or £10m.

Sorry what?

"When he's had funds he's just pissed most of it up the wall"

He's NEVER had a decent amount of funds and certainly NEVER splashed out on a total flop that I can see.

Have you seen how good Iwobi was for us and even better for Fulham?
Iwobi wasn't good for us. He was better than some of the crap that replaced him, like Jack Harrison, but he was very unproductive here, just look at his assists and goals stats. His reputation has improved the longer he hasn't been here. The fee we got for him when we were on our backsides financially and with less than a year left on his contract was good business. There's a lot to chastise Thelwell for, no fullbacks and very poor forwards, for example, but the Iwobi sale is way down the list, in my opinion.

The problem with how the club has been run you don't know if thelwell wanted to bring in a fullback and it was overruled by kenwright or other entities because they felt Coleman could play forever , as there wasn't a clear structure in place

….he’ll be reading this and writing all these excuses down   . I wonder who the ‘other entities’ are. I bet they only interfered with all of his bad signings.

Eggs I'm not saying he's infallible but just like it was established under brands time at the club , it's clear he isn't able to operate unimpeded by the other decision makers at the club

….Kenwright has been dead for 12 months and probably not involved for longer. Moshiri wiped his hands of the club a while ago. If we’ve had a DOF acting without interference for most of his tenure it’s been this bloke.

You don't think dyche has been involved in the recruitment since kenwright and moshiri's influence dissipated? Dyche loves Ashley Young, he's not going to prioritize a new right back

Eggs thinks Thelwell is the antichrist.

He doesnt equate with going to the supermarket with no money and deep down in an overdraft with credit cards maxed out

Thelwell has been growing herbs in his allotment and taking them to tescos to swap for meat.

I think re-loaning Harrison was a Dyche decision. tbf Young has been a solid buy, he's our best RB and LB atm

Not only having to be frugal with an extremely limited budget, there were reports Thelwell had several players he suggested for recruitment vetoed by dyche
