....all conjecture and hypothetical, but given Unsworth is now in charge I wonder if Dowell would be a starter now had he not gone on loan. I suppose the same applies to Liam Walsh and Joe Williams.

This to me is where football, particularly for young players is a series of sliding doors moments.

I have little doubt had Walsh been around when Unsy was here first time and not at Yeovil it would likely have been him and not Davies included. This time round I suspect he'd have played ahead of Beni.

There is no guarantee he would take his chance as those two have. But a lot is about being in the right place at the right time.

..absolutely, one Manager might rate a youngster whilst another doesn’t.

Yes I agree. In truth unless Unsworth has a big turnaround over the next couple of days I think we will see a sharp reduction in opportunities for our younger players.

It was similar under Smith. Promising youngsters were sidelined or sold to fund the signing of more experienced short term options.

Rooney in his prime was a very versatile player but agree his best position was as a number 9. But don't think that is true any longer with his loss in pace.

Well hes currently a number 2!!!

But regardless, Barkley had clearly said he was leaving, last season we ONLY had Barkley at 10, so even if we did sign Rooney for 10, Klaassen is still an 8, so whats wrong with having 2 number 10s? Its only glaring cos we didnt buy a number 9.
