Rooney plYs very deep,for a no 9!

He ends most games at number 6, he drops deeper with every passing minute, it was boss when we played Rooney and Sandro up top, they both dropped to the halfway line.

But regardless, Iceland is our only true number 10 and hes mostly played Left wing.

Yes I agree. In truth unless Unsworth has a big turnaround over the next couple of days I think we will see a sharp reduction in opportunities for our younger players.

It was similar under Smith. Promising youngsters were sidelined or sold to fund the signing of more experienced short term options.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.

Well hes currently a number 2!!!

But regardless, Barkley had clearly said he was leaving, last season we ONLY had Barkley at 10, so even if we did sign Rooney for 10, Klaassen is still an 8, so whats wrong with having 2 number 10s? Its only glaring cos we didnt buy a number 9.
Aye if Barkley had left in the summer you could see the thinking might have been that we'd have Rooney & Siggurdson alternate with Dowell sent on loan to be phased in as Rooney aged. But still a bit odd that Gylfi has never really played in the #10 role not to mention how you fit in Klassen, Davies, Gana, Schniederlin, Besic, McCarthy into the rest of the midfield.

There lies the problem but why buy Klassen unproven in the Prem for 26 million a no 10, then later pursue sig and pay 45 million another no 10 knowing Rooney was used later in life at United as playing a deeper role so deep he was on the subs bench?
Also none of them are fit to lace RB boots in that position?

From http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41805634

Dowell, who has made three first-team appearances for Everton, told BBC Radio Nottingham he was "loving" the move to the City Ground: "I feel like I am getting a lot fitter, and stronger and stronger.

"I am learning the game a lot more than I think I would have done in Everton's Under-23s.

"You definitely become a bit more robust and that's what I have come to do. I'm really happy to be playing every week."

Hate to break it to you but we've pretty much been a nothing club since the late 80s...

all 3 are in the second division. You can't seriously say a "nothing" club is anyone who hasn't been consistently top 4 for over 30 decades? Or are wigan less of a nothing club because they won the fa cup?

Villa have been top flight for decades until recently, if they are a nothing club then so are we.

They arent Joey, but Ross, for whatever reason wants/wanted out, I guess we find out in the next few months if his reason for wanting out has been sacked.

Completely agree.. and I have to say that even if it isn't, I'm not sure if he's going to want to stay with the team the way it is.

I think Ronny pushed Ross to the breaking point and his mind is made. Dowell will probably be next in line as the number 10 trio has been fruitless.

This is what I fear and to be honest we would be better off in the long run by getting someone in short term to keep us up and then appointing a young progressive coach who can build a team around young players in the summer.
