Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

Mixed feelings on this but on the whole, can't say I am too bothered. One of, if not the most talented young players to come through at Everton since Rooney, but he just hasn't pushed on how we'd have expected and he has himself to blame for it. He's given us some good moments, and there is a lot of talent there. If he can find a club that is performing well and plays him in a way that he can excel then I think he could go on to have a good career for them. Someone like Arsenal for example.

But I also think he has been badly advised, has a weak mentality in many ways and all of the above I mentioned about what he 'could' do is very unlikely to happen in reality. I don't see him being an automatic starter at a club like Arsenal or Spurs and that is where his mentality will be tested. If he isn't starting games, I think that will affect him negatively and will put him in a downward spiral. One that could end up seeing him far worse off than he is now. Going from a regular for his boyhood team, to some bottom half team of hard workers like Stoke or Burnley at best.

Meanwhile the club he claimed to support will most likely be a regular top 7 side at worst, potentially challenging for a CL place (maybe better), playing in a new 60,000 seater Stadium. Why he wouldn't battle for that is beyond me, but I just think it shows why he hasn't become the player we hoped, he doesn't have the fight.

There's the truth of the matter.

He is not certain to start this season, especially when Soggy comes in.

Doesn't fancy the fight if you ask me.

I never 'promised' I passed on what I was told. The contract offered was still on the table at 100k pw. Ross, supposedly, was waiting to see what other signings were to be paid and he wanted parity. Since told no further offer will be forthcoming. So he wants to leave.

so from that would you take Koemans "wants a new challenge" statement with a pinch of salt and as being a bit simplistic and not explaining the full story?

What a fool.

He will never play ( regularly ) at a higher level than Everton.

Looks like top clubs are beating the door down to sign him ....not.

Was there a reason you retired @tommye ?

Took more money elsewhere. Very lucrative. ;)

Would you just accept a pay rise when you can't stand the boss? A pay rise you'd probably get by moving on? I don't think things are as cut and dry as Koeman is making out. Just like everyone else though I'm speculating.

Why would you offer a new, improved contract if your intent was to push him out? That was my point.

Aye, maybe there's more to it - but Barkley's silence has been deafening so that's all we've got to go on.

Feel sorry for him. Someone has turned his head & despite one posters conviction it was Koeman, I get the feeling it was someone else.

We're in the midst of what could be perceived as the 'entitled' generation and whilst I clearly don't know for certain, I feel that Ross exhibits some of these characteristics. Bobby Brown shoes played up to this entitlement mindset & gushed whimsically about him in the press & whoever else would listen. Ronny isn't as effluent in his speech as Bobby & this would've had the effect of slamming a metal grate on Ross' fingers! When you're surrounded by people pumping up your tyres, it hits hard when someone tells you you're running on retreads!

I've compiled a list of some challenges Ross Barkley might be considering, along with the likelihood of success:

  • The 'Get Sparked by a Midget and Hit the Floor in Under a Second' challenge: gravitational laws prohibit an object reaching the groud any faster, no matter how fat its arse.
  • The 'Blow out of Your Fat Arse After 15 Minutes' challenge: been rising to that challenge for years now.
  • The 'Tie Your Shoelaces all by Yourself' challenge: one day. One day.
  • The 'No Ross, it's not Your Identical Twin. That's a Mirror' challenge: see above.
  • The 'Just Fall Over for no Reason' challenge: see point two.

He is not guaranteed a start so he decides he needs a new challenge. He is overrated. I doubt we will get a good price as the other clubs are no fools.
