Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

We'll never know why he's going I think, it could be money, ambition or a clash with Koeman.

It doesn't really matter though, as no matter what the reason, it's a terrible mistake for him. He won't end up at a better place than Everton - maybe in terms of league places, but Barkley is very susceptible to what you could call the "Rodwell Route".

An absolute crying shame the whole thing.

Nah. Stayed in the North West. Massive pay increase. Too good to turn down.
Ah.

Imagine if Rooney had done a Ross & let his original contract with us wind down we would never have got 35 million for him !!

Lol at anyone talking about the reception Ross will get next season when Spurs come to Goodison. That clown will be lucky to even make the Spurs bench!

Why would you offer a new, improved contract if your intent was to push him out? That was my point.

Aye, maybe there's more to it - but Barkley's silence has been deafening so that's all we've got to go on.
You do understand though that just saying "we offered the contract we want him here" is different from saying "Ross you're going to be an important player for us and we've offered a contract to match". I'm sure we'll/have offered Joel a new contract but he might not want to warm the bench. I can understand why people want to believe Koeman's narrative though because that's the only story we've heard.

All the reports I've seen have the figure at £100kpw+. Making him one of the highest earners. Joel's contract is unlikely to be anywhere near that, like.

It's a shame he's decided to leave after a very poor season. I really hope he improves, but can't see it.

I said a while ago - and i got a lot of stick for it - Ross will either become the next Lampard/Gerrard OR he'll be another Mark Noble. I think on both counts i may have been giving him too much credit. He doesn't have footballing brain of the former or the determination and loyalty of the latter.
