Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

Definitely think Ross hates Koeman, had smoke blown up his arse by Martinez and Koeman has come in with a few home truths. Don't think Ross can handle the truth. I'm gutted he's going but if he doesn't want to play for us then get rid ASAP

except Rom is a 20+ proven PL scorer at 23 and was the subject of a 75-90m bid from the team with the most titles in England. Ross hasn't accomplished anything and will ride the bench at teams above us as you've said. Really don't think Ross and Roms situations are comparable at all

I would say the only thing comparable is Everton and the manager would of wanted to both to be in next seasons plans but the players didnt want to know.
Problem is one was open and kept telling us this and stuck to his word, while the other said nothing maybe in the vain hope that we might be sympathetic with him. All his nonsense climbing on the Gwladys Street while at the same time knowing he wanted to go, but go to who? Because no one seems to want him, although Everton being silly and putting 50m on his head, when 25m is more a realistic value for him hasn't helped but Ross really hasnt done anyone, including himself any favors.
The way Koeman and the club have handled this is very good and bodes well for the future

It all makes sense to me when I think of it this way.

Martinez has been indulging Barkley from the minute he got here in 2013 and Barkley scored that class opener v Norwich I think it was. He's the future of Everton and England, Ross is a diamond, the team is going to be built around him. The media picks up on it, and all of a sudden he's labelled the new Gascoigne. For any kid of 20 years of age as he was then, to be told all that, you could be forgiven for having a touch of arrogance about you.

So, Koeman arrives on the scene and has told him a few home truths (or tough love, call it what you will), he's not the player he thinks he is, he needs to improve, he is no longer a guaranteed starter in the first eleven, he will have to work hard for his place. Barks has no doubt also felt chastened to be dropped on the occasions he was last season. He's been dropped from the England set-up also.

At season-end, he realizes that the "new" Everton will be spending big money over the summer, which will put his place in further jeopardy.

I suspect that it has all come too easy for Ross; and now that he has effectively [Poor language removed] his own bed by not signing a new contract, he is going to find his career may be at a crossroads. I really just can't see a Man U / Spurs / Arsenal guaranteeing him first-team football this season, let alone paying him close to 150K a week (well Man U probably will!).

Even my bias aside, as I'd love Ross to stay, the best thing for him would be to sign the new contract, knuckle down, listen to your coaches, and fight for his place in the current Everton side. I do think he still loves the club - his goal celebration v Burnley hinted at that - I just think it's a ridiculously childish reaction to Koeman's "treatment" of him this past season.

My take on all this is that Barkley has fallen victim to being awfully advised by his (financially interested - and benefiting) advisors; the suckerfish taking advantage of their charge's 'not the sharpest knife in the drawer'-edness

This whole episode's appointing a sad denouement.

For Ross...

...and for Everton.

I've heard stories about Ross from someone who knows him and that he kind of thinks he's a big cheese around Liverpool and is a bit of a hit with the ladies and other people's ladies. I think it's more down to his personal life that he wants to get away than his actual footballing career.

A new challenge AKA A fresh start somewhere new. Somewhere where nobody knows him.

I've always wanted to see Ross and Rooney playing for Everton together. Absolutely gutted it's not going to happen.

If nobody comes in for him after his groin injury then he is here until January at least. Could be interesting to see how this plays out.

Best of luck with that, he's a Premier League footballer in 2017. He's known globally.

Clubs will make us sweat before making a last minute take it or leave it low bid. If this doesn't happen and hes going to be a negative influence stick him training with the youth.

I meant personally. People in Liverpool know him personally and if he has upset people here or came across as arrogant and big time then he might want to get away from that. They don't know him personally elsewhere, that's why it'll be a fresh start for him.

You may respect him but some others don't. Martina does not even play an official match and you call him a clown yesterday. Double standard Zat?

Barkley chooses to go. Players come players go it's football. This is a Ronald Koeman's team and it might take another window to build his team.

Might take you another window to call him a fraud as well.

So where do we reckon he'll end up? If someone like Stoke came in would he go? Or Wolves?

Honestly can't call it you know, as Koeman said not a single offer has come in for him so it's really up in the air. The media are literally throwing out names of clubs blindly in the hope they'll get one right.
