Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

So you're telling me he's happy here at the moment ?

Evidently not.

But I highly doubt it's to do with playing time.

I think he wants to move to another club primarily for CL football and a *better* chance of winning trophies.

That seems ridiculous, though, as we're finally building a squad capable of challenging for just that.

For what its worth, my opinion is that this has been going on for over 2 years, he doesn't look happy, he looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders, maybe he struggles with the expectation on his shoulders that playing for your boyhood team brings.

In Martinezs last season it was the same, Roy Hodgson never game him and second on the pitch during the world cup and now under Koeman, again he just doesn't look happy. If you look at Tom Davies who looks like a kid in a candy shop having the time of his life in blue shirt, Ross is an unhappy boy.

Farewell Ross, I hope you find your happiness

You are never going to produce your best football if you're not happy. A nice comparison with Tom Davies who looks like he is realising the dream of every Everton fan whenever he steps on the pitch. Sadly the same can't be said for Ross.

he had some trouble on a night out recently, i seem to remember there being a story about him and some local ganster?? No idea how true that was

Might take you another window to call him a fraud as well.

Not really. It takes a couple of days for you to call Martina a clown while you don't realize the real clown is indeed a fraud after all these years. I am fully behind Koeman. I rather have 7th than finishing bottom half two years in a row and pretended that nothing had happened.

And Barkley. A contract was offered on the table. He refused to sign and asked to leave. No one fault other than himself.

If he moves he's going to have even more expectation on his shoulders. He's not going to go for a pittance after all. I think he's being daft here.

Well considering his last good season was El Fraudo's first season.....and people suggesting he is unhappy due to the manager.....that's two managers. What type of manager will it take to make him happy? Do we think someone like Mourinho, Conte or Pep will pander to him, blow smoke up his arse to make him happy? Doubt it. If he thought Koeman was ruthless, he's in for an almighty shock. Small fish, big pond. Or something.
He was probably our best player for about 4/5 months of last season so I have to disagree totally with that one.

The manager thing is a weird one. I think some people are overplaying the 'he doesn't want a disciplinarian' thing just because it suits what they want to believe. Like we always hear how Mirallas isn't a team player and is difficult despite there being literally no evidence of it, him seemingly being really popular with team mates and being used regularly by three managers.

I got the feeling at times last season that Barkley was being singled out by Koeman. A few comments here and there in the press, a couple of occasions when he was hauled off despite not necessarily having been any worse than anyone else, nothing huge but just a few things that gave me that hunch. If - and don't get me wrong, it's a big if - Barkley felt that way too, it becomes more than just 'not getting on' with your boss like many people are talking about. It becomes what would in most of our jobs be seen as bullying (I'm not saying poor Ross was bullied out before anyone starts) and it would be understandable that he felt it might be time to move on.

We are a long way off that yet though. Some very good signings, some lads to return from injury but we would honestly need another 2/3 players away from top 6 not to mind too 4. But as u say we are just building. Hopefylly we get 2 /3 in. A number 10 and a number 1 striker for me would give us chance at top 6.

Just read a post on another site, nearly spat my coffee out in laughter.

Somebody felt sorry for him as Moyes was the wrong manager for him (too conservative), Martinez was the wrong manager for him (indulged him) and now Koeman (doesn't have any sentimentality).

Yep, 3 managers all with faults....but Ross!

You could go on....Hodgson, Southgate.......

Its obvious what the problem is.

Edit: hope he goes the same way as Wilshire, no hatred or malice here, just cannot be doing with over precious prima donnas.....but what's it matter to him? he is going to be very wealthy anyway.

It smacks of the Franny Jeffers situation. He'll be back as an academy coach in 10 years after a career that's petered out and he's ended up playing for Rochdale.
