Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

I agree, i can't see Chelsea, Utd or City going any where near him .

Surely even Ross can see he will sit on Spurs bench for half the season.

If i were a betting man i'd go for Arsenal, he would probably get more starts there than at Spurs.

An outside shout for me would be Newcastle, newly promoted ( a challenge), the unmentionable manager would put his arm around him and make him his star player.

' big fish in small pond ' would suit Ross down to the ground, im sorry to say.

Benitez isn't that kind of manager according to Gerrard.

I see him warming the bench at a top 6 side but eventually getting the chance to prove himself. Then he will either made the grade or end up moving to a mid/lower table side. I think he shows flashes of brilliance but not enough for a top 6 side and doesn't do the basics well enough for a team trying to break into the top 6. A change might resolve one or both of these problems but it's not going to happen at Everton so best for everybody if he leaves.

Thinking about it a City bid makes a lot of sense. Ross and Stones are close and you would imagine he has has talked to him about his contract and what his options are etc. City need to keep homegrown player quota up.

Whether he can force his way into the side or sit alongside Fabian Delph on the bench is another thing.

A move to City makes the least sense out of everything. Look at their attacking midfield options: De Bruyne, Silva, Bernardo, Sane, Sterling. The latter 3 are younger than Barkley too so the "potential" thing doesn't work. He would get less game time than Delph there.

The scapegoaters will regret this when he performs better in a better midfield!
I wish him all the best sad to see him go in these circumstances it will be our loss I tell you that in confidence!

I am pretty sure some people said the same when Jeffers, Rodwell, Pienaar and Stones left.

Rooney, Lescott and Fellaini on the other hand won things which justified their moves.

It would be about City making their homegrown quota and him getting 150k a week. It would fulfill his "Champions league" dreams as well I suppose.

So what you mean is he'll look better when carried by world class players rather than being one of the leading players himself? Ok, can't really disagree with that.

Well Barkley was never leadership material.. He's shown that by taking the easy way out at Everton and never accepting responsibility for mistakes he's made.

Good luck Ross, wanted more than anything for him to win trophies and succeed with us. Not meant to be wishing the best for him. His loss.

city chelsea etc, they are all likely to go for him. he is one of the best english players and you need to have so many off them. look at citys signing of fabian delph.

So you think he could be retained because no club will come through with a high enough fee for Everton to accept - higher than the one he'll fetch next summer...ie nothing at all?

I suppose it comes down to how much value to the team he is for one season. If you think his value is nil over the course of the season then we may as well accept £5mill for him. Personally I think if we get offers of less than £15mill he'll stay and the contract will run down. If it's anywhere near £20mill and up he'll go, and that will still be a great bargain for whoever gets him.
