Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

If nothing else we all should be fuming over the fact he'll be sold to a peer club for relative buttons and will strengthen them. That should unite all sides on the Barkley debate.
It's very poor. Looked to me like we just took it for granted he would sign and didn't offer him a contract when we should have, instead we were only concerned with Lukaku's deal, even though he had longer left on his contract.

The club have messed up, big time.

No matter what all these all of a sudden barkely slatters say....he was one of our best players last season.....and thats with him under-perfoming!!!

Anyone that doesn't see that, they deserve yard dogs and hoof monsters in the team they support.

Both Alderweireld and Wanyama where also brought to Saints whilst Mitchell was part of the recruitment team as well.

How highly he is rated can be glimpsed by after he resigned, Spurs refused to accept it (his contract ran out this summer) and instead sent him on gardening leave from the club for a year - in order that he couldn't join anyone else.

Like Walsh at Leicester and to a differing extend Dein at Arsenal - there is a lot of people behind the scenes at successful clubs who are as important as any manager in reality
It's an odd one though from a Spurs point of view. If he's got a good working relationship and track record with Pochettino, then you can't imagine he's too happy about it. It would be interesting to know the working relationship that Koeman and Walsh have, as a lot of our transfer's seem to be Koeman's choices rather than Walsh's.

Im gutted hes leaving, no real need for whos "fault" it is, everybody must share the blame to a degree, but the main thing for me is that the club offered him a contract, which he turned down, so if people really need somebody to blame, it surely must be Ross.

This is a mistake, not from the club and certainly not from Ross, but this "decision" will cost us, hes an insanely talented boy and Everton is worse off WITHOUT Ross Barkley, no matter who we buy to "replace" him.

The club havent messed up at all, the one who has messed up is Ross, on and off the field. EFC are doing well and moving forward, he cant even get in the England and no longer is part of a first team squad, when you have these troublesome players there really isnt much you can do apart form try and get the best fee you can, but even then someone has to come in for him

I agree with most of that but we've had crap management in terms of contracts for years. Bottom line club should have done everything in its power, that means offering a deal in 2015/16 and making player feel wanted, not with 18 months left. If the lad still turns down the contract then okay but the club should have all its ducks in a row. Doesn't make any sense to be offering a deal to Lukaku 30 months before his is due to expire and not doing the same with Barkley. That's bad management.

EFC is a business and Ross a major asset of that business. Every effort should have been made 2 years ago to convince Ross to sign to protect that assest from dramatic depreciation completely irrelevant of what was happening on the pitch.
It doesn't appear that was done and if so, from a purely business perspective, the club have messed up here.

Its easy to say the club messed up cos they didnt offer a contract 18 months ago. If anything, the players agent messed up by not asking for one. Thats what he is paid for.

Then, when we did offer one, he turned it down. Sad, but 100% at the feet of Ross/Agent.

Some folk tried to be clever. And/or, off field stuff pitched up. Either way, one of them.

*shrugs*

Because people are soothing themselves with the belief that he's not the player they actually worshipped for about 4 seasons.

He's easily good enough for the CL 4 plus Arsenal. And that will soon be proven.
On his day true...just not enough of them sadly .

If he gets a move to a CL club with a fat wage rise and a big signing on fee has his agent messed up? Could've been their plan all along
