Last Film You Watched

Couple of films seen recently

3 Billboards - Heard @Joey66 had recommended this, so gave it a try. I enjoyed it, thought it was a really good film. Nice one @Joey66

Labyrinth - Remembered this being a lot better. My lad liked it but I could barely stay awake, it's not aged well at all, it's awful, and that's not mentioning the effects which aren't really that bad.

E.T. - As good as I remembered it. Elliot's Mum seems a lot fitter than I remembered her. Apart from being a great film, it's interesting how attitudes have changed so much. Like when she leaves her 3 year old kid home alone to watch tv while she goes to collect Elliot from school.

yeah..theres some good bits in it, but not sure why it has such a cult status

Fantastic Beasts: The crimes of Grindelwald

I'm a huge, and I mean HUUUUGE, Harry Potter fan. It's my favorite film and book franchise ever. But this film, man, it just didn't deliver.
My main issue is that the writers obviously has so little confidence in the story they're trying to tell, they just fill it up with crappy comedy and goofyness.

The Harry Potter films sure had some goofy moments, but they knew when and where to add the comedy and they never overdid it. Here it's a pure goof fest for the first 90 minutes of the film. The goofyness just makes the characters (and I liked some of them in the previous film) obnoxious and boring.

The best thing about this film is Newt Scamander. I love him as a character and the actor is great. He's the main reason this film get's a half decent score. I also think Johnny Depp does an all right job. Good, but not great. However they didn't really give him much to work with, so I feel he can't be blamed.

A big issue for me is how they made characters that's only been mentioned in the HP books and films seem like the biggest goofballs ever. I wish they just kept Flamel out of the film. Most of the mentions/cameos of characters from the Potter films/books just seem'd like misplaced fan service and it didn't work for me at all.
Some of the smaller beasts from the first film still oozes charm, the chinese dragon thingy was awesome and (I just gotta point this out again) Eddie Redmayne was superb.

Jude Law did not feel like Dumbledore, the fat muggle with the moustache didn't have one enjoyable moment in the entire film, his girlfriend was useless and her sister was dull.

I'm intrigued by the Creedence (?) kid. A fine performance by the actor who I don't know the name of. The score was big and bombastic, but not memorable.

Highlight of the film was seeing Hogwarts again and hearing John Williams iconic score. That was amazing. I love that place.

Gotta give them props for the effects though. The film looks really nice (although a bit too dark at some points, like when Newt and Dumbledore meets for the first time with a foggy city in the background). The CG cats in the french ministry could've been done better too, to say the least.

The film also has a lack of genuine Harry Potter feel to it. And the magic seems to be working completely different in this series, than it did in HP. I just don't buy most of it as a Potter fan.

Easily the worst film in the franchise. Though that doesn't take much as I simply love the other films.

5/10

Mandy - Cage goes full on PYSCHO CAGE !

Very strange film, almost Gonzo in style.

Cage and his missus living peacefully off the grid in the mountains somewhere in the States, when his missus is kidnapped and murdered by a cult.

Cue Cage going into full into REVENGE CAGE mode !

The first hour is full as ditchwater and filmed almost in a dream sequence. The second hour is full on, brutal, ultra violent and not for the faint hearted.

An acquired taste.
